I'm in the process of gathering things for a yard sale, because I'll likely be moving soon, and yesterday I came across one of Paul's drumsticks that I was lucky enough to obtain many years ago after a CH concert. I thought it was a timely find, since the album is coming out next week.

I'm listening to the stream of the album now and it's a good album, but it's definitely missing something without Paul. I can really feel his absense. I miss him.

I have listened to many bands over the years, some with better drummers than Paul, and some with drummers not as good as Paul.

I have always wanted to say something about Paul here, even when he was alive but I always thought it would be ridiculed, but having a thread opened about him, I'm gonna say it now....

I have only ever heard one drummer that seemed to make the drums express themselves. Like they were trying to say something. From the very first momebnt I heard the song 'I feel Possessed', I just felt that the drums were actually trying to talk! It's weird and difficult to explain. It's not that it's the kind of brilliance in Drumming that someone like Keith Moon might have produced, it's a different type of thing and it is something special for me anyway?

As a drummer, I know exactly what you're talking about with Paul. The only other drummer like that makes the drums 'talk,' to me, is Ringo, especially the last few Beatles ablums.

Paul's drumming is exceptional to me not because of his technical skills, or fast-as-lightning fills, or unusual patterns, etc, but because a.) the parts fit the songs (feel, choices, etc) 2.) he leaves space in there and c.) he's very, well, musical - you're right, and I Feel Posessed is a great example - the drums do seem to talk. Cowbell!

My only problem is when people cite 'Weather With You' from Woodface, for obvious reasons!

That is s good way of describing it. What he was playing fit the songs so well. Perfect like a good glove fits a hand. But it was innovative and expressive drumming, not just keeping the beat and time. Paul was not as off the wall as Moon but very fresh and original like Moon. He was almost always singing the harmony as he played. He did that so naturally with Nick and Neil and made it look easy. Matt is a great drummer. I saw them in Tempe AZ a few months back. After listening to the stream of the new record I do miss Paul. But missing him does appear to be a thread of the lyrics and theme of the new CD. No doubt helping the other fans and band members grieve over Paul's passing. He will always be missed. Cool souvenir having the drum stick. Scott www.scotthallock.com

Yes, it's a very sorrowful album. At least that's how it seems at first listen.

Paul's death is also coupled with something that happened to a friend of mine. She miscarried a day or two before he died. I was pregnant at the time (we were so excited to be pregnant at the same time) and I called her to tell her the knews of his death. She was crying when I called, so I thought she had already heard. And then she told me her sad news. This all brings back very sad memories for me.

Thanks for not making me feel stupid. I'm a Bass player and I have always noticed Pauls drumming that way but especially I Feel Possessed. For me Moon is probably the best drummer their ever was but what Paul could do was similar but also different.Moons were agressive but not like talking, just like raw energy. Pauls drumming was quite emotional.

Ringo is another good example of an expressive drummer. Not a fantastic drummer by any stretch but he made the drums sound happy! Same way that Paul makes them sound.......moody, I guess?
