Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream ,It is not dying It is not dying
Lay down all thought Surrender to the void .. It is shining It is shining
Yet you may see the meaning of within,it is being, it is being

I'd almost forgotten this little anecdote about Paul....but thought it was so damn cute and Paul-ish I'd share it. This week my Mum was visiting us at Kalorama & she remembered that it's almost been a year....and she reminded me how many many years ago she met Paul at Sydney airport. I was flying back to Melbourne after spending time at home (Xmas?) and we were early and waiting an hour for my flight. Crowded House had just returned from America and were about to record their 2nd album...the first hadn't taken off yet & the only place it had done anything was Australia- ONE Gold record.
Anyway we were sitting waiting for the flight ..and down plops Paul, fresh back from the States and a bit sad by the lack of sales of the debut (little did any of us know!!! how big it would become over the next few months). He was on the next flight BUT got talking to my Mum- he was ALWAYS great with the Mums(!) and decided to delay his flight & fly with me... the next 45 minutes was a PG 'Roast' both Mum & Paul swapping stories at my expense! They loved it...(every so often years later Paul would recite one of those 'stories' to bait me *grin*). He wandered off and went and got my Mum a cuppa....all these years later my mother still says he was so charming and such a sweet fun boy and so down to earth. It's kind of how I like to remember him too I guess...

Anyway it's probably a silly story but for some reason that one stuck in my head during Mums visit & thought I'd share it.

Gryph.

A story that warms the heart Gryph Smiler

Thank you for sharing.

You must have many warm memories of Paul. I hope they keep surprising you - and delighting you - for many years to come.

Thank you, Peter. What wonderful story! It's how we should all remember him. For the way he lived, not the way he died.......

The water works have started already. Frowner

Heart warming indeed Peter...

I'm sure there's many, many more stories like this one to uncover. Thank you for sharing that with us, we truly appreciate it.

I (and several others I'm sure) do not know how we will get through this weekend. As stated by several others here, the tears have already started. Lucky we have so many happy and fun Hessie times to remember.

What I wouldn't give for someone like Paul to wrangle my mother. Roll Eyes

Bless him.

I'm on a mission to make sure we laugh this weekend. I recommend large doses of the Tough Love tribute.

Yes, the heart is weighing heavy and the tears are starting to fall.......I still shake my head in disbelief, how did this happen....

I agree with you Mrs HP - the Tough Love stories are a gem, those were the best days, when Hessie would drop in on Martin & Molloy, laugh, my god, hysterical; and then on the Mick Molloy Show... 'and now for something completely different..' and Hess would make the tea in fine bone china with his pinky always outstretched!I can still see it. But whenever I need a really good 'laugh out loud' laugh I just listen to Paul telling the "Filling in for Hirsty - Midnight Oil story" and it just breaks me up every time, he is hysterical - nothing really that funny about it, but Paul could make any story the funniest thing you've ever heard! I'm still amazed that he got through that whole gig, what a drummer hey! and the Village People tale is also a classic....yes, there'll be tears this weekend, floods I would imagine, but laughter also, and very fond memories of a very special person who is so greatly missed.

It goes without saying how we will all be feeling this weekend, so a big cyber hug to you all, but most especially, much love to all Paul's family and friends, my love and thoughts are with you.

Thanks for it all Paul
RIP xxx

On Saturday night the 26th of March 2005 I couldn`t get to sleep so I went outside to see a most brilliant fullmoon with a bright star shining right next to it so I took this shot of it.
Pauls star !!

It was the next day that I heard the tragic news.
Shine on my friend, shine on .

On a lighter note,I'm taking the kids to see The Wiggles today.
Pauls star !!
Yes,BIG hugs to all Smiler

It's hard to believe that soon a year will have gone by. Hessie was truly the funniest, friendliest, most warm-hearted guy and it is so sad to just rememeber that he is no longer with us. However, just thinking to a year back and even now, our great memories of him still make him a truly special person to us all.
It looks like it's time to bring out the Dreaming DVD; the hidden Rockwiz and Hessie's Shed episodes we all recorded a year ago; take a walk on St. Kilda or Elwood; or just look at the starry night sky to pay our respects to Hessie and maybe shed a tear or two with laughter and a smile at his attics.

My warm thoughts go out to Paul's family and friends this weekend, and also to everyone in the forum.
It's always great to chat with everyone, and the way everyone supported each other throughout the past year was truly hearting. Thanks everyone.

Most importantly, thank you Hessie for all the entertainment joy, laughter and inspiration you gave us all with your presence and your music. Rest in peace. You'll always be with us!

I had no idea about this forum last year until they showed it on the news and even then I didn't know how to get to it, so I wasn't able to show my respect last year on Paul's passing, but now I can... Frowner wish I didn't have to though..

I remember that I had to go to school after I found out, and I had to go home early because I was crying so much, and on the way home I just felt like I was gonna drop on the pavement and cry my heart out, I was that upset..

RIP Paul, we all love you! Frowner

paul's "passing" is 3 days after my bday so i will always remember it.

of course i never =knew= the man, but i felt close to him through the music and the personality that resonated through it.

tonight i played "as sure as i am", on a "jukebox" for him. who can determine happiness? hopefully he's happy now and his fam is doing ok. and there's some really nice drums on that tune...

One of my very favourite videos that i play alot is when Crowded House were on a kids TV programme in the UK called "Going Live". Being an ex-pat i clearly remember the live broadcast of it too when I was about 13/14.

Anyway they had just finished up playing "Weather with you". And the host (x-kiwi) Philip Schofield showed to ask the band about their competition they are running.

The band were giving away a lot of very crappy prizes - like a "Weather Science" kit or some rubbish.

All the winner had to do was answer the question given to them by Paul - oh oh!

(Remember - KIDS tv show)

Philip Schofield: "So whats the question?"
Quick as a flash....
Paulo: "Which member of the group is NOT circumcised?"

Host closes eyes and imagines all the parents calling in their complaints in about 3 seconds...

Love it - classic TV. I really should rip that and post it one of these days...

Any other good stories - I bet their is!!!

It is so hard to believe that a year has gone by.
I saw Paul once whilst I was (singing and) driving in Melbourne in 2003 and got a wave with a big smile (he was right behind me, not that I recognised him straight away as we were not in Elwood!) He was so full of life and energy. While I was more embarrassed that HE had to hear me sing 'I See Red' and 'Stuff and Nonsense!' Roll Eyes

It is amazing that Paul managed to impact on so many lives in such a short life of his own.
RIP Paulo we will always remember you.

Thoughts go out to all Frenz and all of Paul's family and friends this weekend.

One year....it's been a strange year, but mostly in a good way. I found loads of new Frenz. Paul helped me and others in ways he never knew.

Hope everyone is ok today.

It has been a strange year, and it's been so nice being able to share it with all my frenz. It would have been so much harder without you all.

Yes, that was fun, it felt really special to be there. We'd obviously seen the video loads of times, so it was really good to walk around the opera house to see what it looked like 'in real life' Cool.

I found this picture on Google and I thought it was a nice one to share here.

Tomorrow's going to be a difficult day, Paul's family, friends and especially his girls, won't be far from my mind all day.
