Aaah there you are hexed, good work.

About the cover too....Paul was very famously and repeatedly quoted for saying (something like)he wanted to spend all his life within Pages 58 & 59 of the Melways, so I think it's inclusion was perfect.

It gave me a big smile to remember my life on that same page and how cool it was to have Hessie in the neighbourhood. Smiler It is certainly identified as HIS neighbourhood, by many. Smiler

I just received my copy on Friday, and listened to it this morning. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it is, and my (musically picky) husband commented that he liked the CD as well. I've always liked Paul's songs on the CH albums, and I found this CD to be a step up/away from his "Italian Plastic" days. Very good summertime, folky pop music, I think. Wink

Does anyone recall as to whether all the songs were LLT recordings? I see that the only credit given is for Paul's songwriting - there isn't any mention on the other musicians and vocalists that are obviously contributing. Anyone have this info? Peter? Smiler

Hey Treegrrl,
Just in response to your question above - the tracks on "I Like It Rare #3" were all taken from Paul's solo album which unfortunately was never released- it's all his own solo work, not "Largest Living Things", or any of his other bands. He was singer, songwriter and musician on all tracks, (that's not to say he wouldn't have had friends help out with certain instruments - can't answer that, maybe Peter G would know, but Paul was a multi-instrumentalist, incredibly talented musician). It's a beautiful CD isn't it, I just love it, wish we could get the remaining tracks from his solo album, I would have thought there were more than 7 ready to go - maybe sometime in the future! Here's hoping, what a gift that would be!

Missing you Hessie! RIPxxx

Just a quick note for anyone wondering whether there are any copies left to buy. According to PG yesterday, approx 60% have been sold........so if you are thinking about getting a copy.......get in QUICK! You won't regret it.....it's a true Hessie masterpiece and remember part of the proceeds go towards the trust fund set up for his daughters.

Enjoy the music!

Recieved my copy yesterday and listened to it straight away...blown away by how talented this man really was, I love these songs and can't stop listening to them! I adore all 7 of them but "Goaltending" and "Walking into Rooms" are my particular favourites. I Fell to pieces on the first listen I must admit...Can't listen to Walking into rooms without crying.

Hi Suriya,
The CD is a fanclub release, so the straightforward answer would be to join the fanclub Smiler However, it's possible that some copies may eventually be offered on the merchandise area of this website, as is the case with the previous edition of I Like I Rare - but we don't know that for certain, as I'm sure Peter Green will allow enough time for members to order before doing anything like that.

I would suggest you send an email to Peter and explain your situation - if you go to the Resources page of Frenz.com, there's an email form you can use. Hope this helps and that you can get hold of a copy Smiler

Yeah Rare #3 was originally a club fundraiser, we started on this one last December(04!!!!) . Paul gave us a cd of bits and pieces to be used for Rare #3 ('use 1, use 3 use em all Peety' as the video says), apart from his usual good nature and supporting the club, it was also Pauls way of supporting the 'Frenz 'when we covered some of the costs around his solo album re funds etc. He always gave something back, and if he dicked us around with 'potential' cd solo releases, it was still Paul and apart from some frustration we loved the little bugger and he got away with it).

Some of you might also remember that apart from the tracks he also gave us some other bits and pieces that were used in the Frenz.com auction (not Frenz club auction) and a possible Paul website was going to end up on Frenz.com around the 'solo' cd.

From memory Deb even had some designs done of the website....I took a whole serious of studio photos, and Paul gave us various Hester early shots....some never seen before.... so a lot was started around this time...when the solo album got delayed again for the 3rd (4th?) time the site was put on hold.

The cover shot
The original cover shot on Rare #3 was taken for the fundraiser, the back shot of Paul's Melways grid reference was also meant to have a 3D type photo of Paul towering over his Melways 'square' the photo was locked in to be done a week after his death. So hence no 3D type Paul. The melways idea was Hessies.

For those who asked
The fundraisers are once a year, we start work on them 6 months before (Rare #4 we start in DEC '05..hopefully some more Neil solo, Tim solo?etc depends what the guys contribute).

Instead of the club getting the bulk of the $ around this we decided it was more important for the Trust for Olive and Sunday to get $, if for nothing else just because Paul was always brilliant at club support and it seems the right thing to do. In the end it's the clubs call and I think most people would be happy about this.

WE did decide that the Rare #3 stays within the club (not available on the web etc) and the one original small run (around 380 Frenz will end up with it).

All future Paul stuff (from when he passed away )will be handled by the trust, as it should be, as it is part of Pauls estate. I'm assuming that's the law around this. That would include any future solo album stuff....Paul had changed his mind at least 3 times on the solo material prior to his death, as many of you are aware...there is a quote we have on video somewhere where he says 'after leaving Crowded House he will be like everyone else and rambling on about his solo album for the next ten years'...he was pretty much correct *GRIN* So who knows exactly what Paul really wanted Solo album wise. last time I spoke to him, maybe 2 weeks before he said he had some new songs and wanted to add them to the pile for it. So who knows.

Re: any left....
The club has a few copies left, and it is only 1 per person. There will not be any reruns of this as we said to Paul it was one run and thats it. Club members only.

Kevin (LLT Kevin) said he would drop over a list of the people who played on tracks etc Paul pretty much said he penned them but zero other information, so if we get some more info we will let people know. Kevin would be aware of this more then anyone
so we should be able to add that info later on.

As far as future Paul releases, in my head I'm not sure what he would of wanted around a solo album, as he seemed to change his mind a lot around this. Not really up to me, which is kind of good. It's nice to step back from it all, it's been a hard year.

The Rare #3 club fundraiser really owes it's existence to Paul and his big heart, out of the many people we have worked with Paul was nearly always the first person to put up his hand or offer some music around the club. He understood what it was like to be a fan, and he embraced the club in such a way that it will always leave a big hole. Around a lot of things, that I can think of from the Koori community, to even our fun projects through the office (It was Paul who called up around the Wings off flies' book launch and offered to play for free,) it just made the night extra special having him playing those songs...and he had a good time, so vibed that he went off and did a 2nd 'gig' that night but confessed that the 'gig' at Greville street Book store was far more warm and receptive *grin*. Didn't Dylan play book stores he asked me.

Anyway the above should answer a few questions. Still no News around the Paul Hester Reserve, it does take time for the wheels to turn and for councils to read all the suggestions etc.

If any one has any questions feel free to email me (peter@frenz.com).

cheers
Gryph

p.s. this is a long post but wanted to cover as much as possible.

It's great to hear from you in some shape or form, since FF4-16 is currently AWOL ( the server's fault, I know ).

Was a tad worried the first couple of days, but everything was explained on Frenz.com, ( thanks Deb, eh? ).

Worry not about the length of your post, we all enjoy your detail ( it's all in the details they say ).

Enjoy any down time you can get while the problem gets fixed, and hope to read your latest posts soon! Razzer Wink

I joined and received my copy and I agree with everyone, it is awesome and a lovely opportunity to give something back to his family considering he gave so much to us all. The map on the back is where Paul's heart was, I don't find it morbid. He was said to have marked out the area and said that if he could make his living within the boundaries he would be happy. One day I'd like to go there to sit and have a nice cup of tea and remember him living large.
