Anyone remember about 6 or 7 years ago the K-Mart commercials with 'Counting The Beat' in them? I do, and I was only 8 or 9. My first exposure to the whole Finn/Enz/CH/Judd/Fenster etc. circle

It took me a long time to find out that that song was by The Swingers - I'd heard of them but didn't know what they did until I heard a radio show on the Enz last year. Its a great song, shame most Australians now relate it to Kmart.

good song that, and as well as Phil Judd the Swingers had Bones Hillman, who became bass player for Midnight Oil (one of my favourites) and Russel Crowe(DEFINETLY not one of my favourites) when MO broke up, so it does hold special significance for me. I think Phil said that the amount K-Mart offered to him for the song was the exact amount that he'd been in debt after The Swingers collapsed Razzer

Arrghh!!! I remember the add, and of course you're right now i think about it, but i hadnt connected the random background noise of a fairly annoying ad to this ace song. I am mentally scared now!

Greatfox, did you say Russel Crowe was in the Swingers? Will wonders never cease?

nah, the bass player from the swingers, Bones Hillman was in Russel Crowe's band after the swingers and some time in Midnight Oil. I did have a search of the forum and wasn't able to dig up phil's post about the K-mart amount was, if you look hard enough you'll find it though

If memory serves me correct, the original ad with "Counting The Beat" was recorded at the house of someone I was in primary school with at the time...it was only a few hundred metres up the road from the school and they had to change all the furniture for the day...
