this movie, which features the finn brothers 'won't give in' releases on DVD august 9th. i just added it to my netflix queue and i thought i would mention it in case somebody else wanted to check it out. the reviews have generally been pretty good for it.
A lonely 10-year-old girl (Annasophia Robb) adopts an orphaned dog, Winn-Dixie (named for the supermarket where she found him), who helps her make friends in a small Florida town. The inseparable bond between the girl and her beloved companion unites the townspeople and helps heal her own troubled relationship with her father. Directed by Wayne Wang, the movie also stars Jeff Daniels, Eva Marie Saint and Cicely Tyson.
well, i haven't seen the movie, but from everything i've read the setting is never really specific. i would guess it takes place in the present.
now if you're talking about whether or not the song 'wont give in' was created before this movie, that's something no one can be sure of but the finns. the book (which this movie is based on) came out in 2001, and wont give in has a somewhat lengthy history according to neil. supposedly it was written to go in a movie, but this was not the movie. more than likely what happened was the finn brothers album came out last summer while this was filming (it was filming then), someone heard it and thought it would be an appropriate song to include.
Its a family show, was reviewed on the abc's movie show in Australia the last week or two. It got a couple of stars I think out of 5 Bad acting all round even the dog was unlikeable, so they say. Did get more stars then House of Wax though LOL

recently saw this one and thought it was pretty good for a kids movie and thought it was quite unique given the typical stuff you normally see in a movie aimed at children. won't give in is played during the first ten minutes as opal, the main character, reads a note her dad left for her on the refrigerator.
Well I saw the trailer to this last night at the cinema and when it flashed up what was on the sound track, my friend turned to me and said " oh God the Finn Brothers are on the sound track, we have to go to a kids movie!" She knows how fanatical I am!
Cool - folks - I have an unlimited card for 17.50 Euro per month - I can go to as many films as I like. I could go to this film every day whilst it is on (only joking)!

I finally saw this movie with my little girls. Without the benefit of having heard WGI a gazillion times I would've missed it.
The song is in the beginning of the film, when Opal finds a note from her father asking for her to go to the Winn-Dixie for a few groceries. "Won't Give In" is being played on her father's bedroom radio (very tinny - am radio like) when she's walking about looking for him, before she finds his note. You need to raise the volume greatly to catch it.
I'd love to know what radio station in Florida would be playing a Finn Brother's song!
