Would anyone know if "Weather With You" was ever used in any commercials? For some reason I have thought of Coke and Bounce when listening to it. I don't usually think of products when I listen to any song. Plus, that song has always sounded a little bit familiar to me, but I didn't know it as a Crowded House song until last year. I am thinking of somewhere in the 1990s for it to have been used in a commericial. Does anyone remember?

I know it was used in commercials for a BBC travel show a year or two ago (because I caught the commercials when I was in London for a work trip), but I've never heard it in the US.

I'd be very interested in finding out what product(s) might have used WWY!

Neil's said a couple of interviews that he's not keen on licensing his music to be used out of context in commercials and things like that, so I'm not surprised that we don't see it happen much.

The BBC travel show would have been different, as that would be incidental music which they wouldn't have to ask his permission to use, the just have to pay the PRS fees and register it. BBC TV in the UK is not commercial, and doesn't carry any adverts other than trailers for it's own shows, as it's all paid for with public money.

I saw Neil in concert a few years ago and as he was playing 'Tombstone', someone in the audience yelled out 'Tombstone Pizzas!'. To which Neil replied "Tombstone pizzas? I should ring them up and ask them if they want to use it! (Laughs) No way".

this wasn't an actual travel show, it was a commercial on the travel channel promoting new zealand. there were two, one ran 30 seconds and the other ran 45. i'm willing to bet don't dream it's over was licensed for the commercial. the travel channel here is commercial and not paid for publicly.

the portion of the song used contained no lyrics.

coincidentally enough a couple years ago there was an hour long feature done about new zealand that had interviews with neil and dave dobbyn.

Actually they would have had to arrange a synchronisation fee with the record company's lisencing department, and in a round about way, that would have been ok'd by CH, as to let the music be used, they'd have had to check the artists contract...

Various Neil\CH bits and pieces, loops of instrumental parts from songs have been used by RT as incidental music for their travel shows on New Zealand. There was one show if i remember correctly, which contained nearly exclusively Neil and CH music in it - Last To Know, Private Universe, Skin Feeling, Fingers of Love and Weather With You all turned up at various stages. The exception was the guitar intro from "Loyal" by Dave Dobbyn.

Believe it or not, 'It's Only Natural' is featured as part of a course I'm currently doing with The Open University in Social Sciences. In fact some of the audio course material features a completely pointless and out-of-context discussion of the lyrics of the song and how it is relevant to our understanding of what is meant by 'natural'.

I dread to think what Neil would make of the experts' analysis of it Smiler

So CH songs have been used for more commercial purposes than they realise. Bet the University never paid to licence it from them either!

Don't Dream its Over (I think?) was used in a beautiful set of commercials advertising travel to New Zealand. I imagine being part of something like that and having your song linked with the gorgeous NZ environment would be something Neil would be quite proud of - he's never lost his kiwi heritage!

Its a bit different than flogging cars or toilet cleaner or something crass like that!

I seem to remember All I Ask and How will You Go both being used in a Smith Family(or alike)ad just after Woodface came out and the start of It's Only Natural being on the more recent can recycling ads with Layne Beachly.World where you live was also in an ad in the late 80's but I dont remember for what. I See Red was on the last Red Nose Day ad's but not the Enz version.

Does anyone remember the BBC using the intro of Black & White Boy for a tv ad ever?

I didn't know the song at all 'til I bought TA the other year... and the first time I heard it I knew it from somewhere... I have a feeling that's where it was from - anyone confirm this or correct me???

Let your mind go anywhere it wants...

You know I meant it well... but who was it meant to help?

The BBC have used quite a few Finn musical moments aside from using WWY for weather purposes - Don't ask Why made it into the Queen Vic in Eastenders, Into Temptaion was used to advertise and upcoming Neighbours episode and Top Gear had the Edible flowers music on a clip.

ITV used I see Red to advertise an upcoming football game with a certain team in red that my religion will not let me say and the drum beats and guiter intro on She will have her way was used on some sky channel programme on property over Xmas...

The ABC here in Oz use a female version of Into Temptation (sorry don't know who it was but I liked it alot) to promote Carnivale, a sort of good v. evil morality tale set in the dust bowl period of the US, amongst carnival folk.

The promo was on this weekened.

If anyone knows who did this cover version, can they please pm me? As I say, I liked it alot. Big Grin

(It wasn't Renee Geyer from the She Will Have Her Way cd. Might have been a group with a female lead singer).
