Hi all, got Mark Hart's album 'Nada Sonata' through this morning and at present- listening to it. I love it Smiler It is a mixture of dark and bright songs, slightly beatlesque but still worth listening to. A certain part of any collector of the Crowdies material. If anyone is interested in ordering it- check out www.psbrecords.com they now have a Credit Card order system.

Hearing Mark sing is quite out of the ordinary as I only heard him sing lead vocals on a few Club CD's. but he has given it a go and I feel it is about time.

So go on....check it out. It may be your cup of tea- it may not. Smiler

Cheers.

Welllllll - IMHO this is in the right forum! I mean - how related can a musician actually be if he played in THE band?

Don't worry Simon! Wink That's just what I say!

Do yourself a favor and check out this album. It has some really good songs:
TO Paris
Many Roads
Nada Sonata
I personally enjoyed this album a lot better than Neil's(*Not a knock against One Nil, just my humble opinion*)
Also psb records had a deal going on that if you sent them 10 email address of people who may be interested, you can get an autographed copy(not sure if its still running).
This is the best solo crowdie album this year.
*Not counting Tim's, We'll see how that is Tuesday.

Hiya,

Does anyone know of any sound samples of Mark's album anywhere on the Net? I'm certainly interested in getting the album, but just need to listen to one or two tracks first.... Any help?

hmmm... just found the samples on Mark's page on psbrecords.com. How generous - 10 sec clips. Are there any *longer* samples anywhere?

Sorry Spence, but i think your going to have to use the 10 second clips and crowdie's and my recommondations. He's on a small label and won't get that much promotion which is a shame.

Spence, you know me....do I have that kinda face to say that an album is good when it isn't??? Hehehhe- I recommend it mate- I didn't even listen to the samples. As with Finned here- we both find it a great solo album and I hope that he gets the recognition he deserves. So get that wallet out mate and get an order. Speak soon.

Simon

OK, then give us a complete track to track recension of the album Wink Razzer

All you say is that it's great but how does it sound, who are the other musicians on it, and to what could one compare it? Confused

I will do that in a short space of time Silke- but that will be my personal opinion though. We all relate differently to songs- but I will do one up or Finned can aswell, or both Big Grin

Give me a few days to conjour one up as I have been a little busy and only able to do little messages at the mo. Hear from me soon peeps Smiler

Hi all,
I'm not good at comparing artists and what not but I'll give a little more info here and a song by song review later in the week. The album has 12 songs most written by Mark or someone named Ken Segall. Mark wrote the music for all the songs. One song was written with Tim Finn(Something to take my mind off of you)The drummer is named Jesse Siebenberg, bass Cliff Hugo. Mark plays B3, piano, guitars, lap steel, vocals, harmonica, bass, keyboards, melodica, vibes, wurlitzer. The album really shows off Mark's talent on various instruments as you can see from the list.

It is a really hard album to describe. If you just picked it up and knew nothing about it you would think it was done in the 60's or 70's. It has a Beatles feel in part, psycodelic parts, mixed with a dark pop. Much like Neil, Mark is really hard for me to put in one category. Honestly though I really liked the album, I like it a lot better than One Nil, I've listened to it about 7-8 times in the last three days. I'll give a song by song review later this week.

Hope that helps Silke Smiler

Silke here is the review I promised. Note, I have never written one before and have no idea what I'm doing but here goes my track by track run down. I've tried to give a comparison or my feel of each song hope it helps.
1 IDon't Know You This one has a Tim Finn SIIS album feel.
2Something To Take My Mind Off Of YouThis one was written with Tim and has and has a beatlesque, 60's feel, 2 cool references to Heminway and Billie Holiday.
3 I've Got A GirlTitle says it all, Beatlesque love song.
4 Around Again Rock Pop song dark intro.
5 To ParisMy personal favorite, immposible to compareto anything Mark plays everything on this and 10Nada Sonatawhich is also really hard to compare but I've heard that The Crowdies covered this before don't know how true that is(If it is and anyone has a version of it I'd love to hear it)
6Many Roads Beatleseque, life and the past great lyrics
7 Always better you near Vintage Mark, get the album you'll understand
8 Time Bomb Man70's intro
9 1000 Days of Beer a relaxed mood song
11 Drowing in the AirA Fionna Apple feel
12 Lullaby for ChanningOne of the most heartfelt songs you'll ever here.
Sorry if I was long, that's the best I can do.
Your up Crowdie Smiler

*Simon stands up after Finned sits* Wink

Well...I am going to agree all the way with Finned- the songs arrange from Beatlesque to some rock guitar tunes. Lullaby for Channing is a very heart warming song- it is the kind of sad song that you can't get out of your head. My favourites are Drowning in the Air, Something to take my mind off of You, I've got a Girl and Lullaby for Channing. Agree that To Paris is a fantastic song and I didn't know about the Crowdies covering it (if rumour is true) Cool Smiler

Well- I hope that is enough- Finned, thanks for doing up a review- couldn't agree more Smiler

Anyone else received their copy yet? Any more reviews?

I'm totally jealous that you've all received your copies and I can't wait for mine now!

Is it one of those albums that grows on you after several listens or will I love it straight away?
