Silke! Silke! Silke!! Not to get all psychotherapeutic on you or anything, but....
Unless you are truly of the ether-- or perhaps a wee small person that only appears on holidays among the Irish--- then you are truly more than many things-- never overestimated! I for one truly love and appreciate your passion for the music and for the musicians. You brought me face to face with some of the Finn phenomenon by your writing and now your posting of dates for Goldenboy will allow me to be there for his concert when he's in Montana-- and I fully intend to let him know that it was YOU who brought at least this fan to the stage!!! Joy! and thanks for the great energy!!! |

Why are Goldenboy being mentioned here at Frenz.com ?
They are toilet, I've been in bands who have thrown away songs they decide to use - and they are not associated with Split Enz. Goldenboy ? Well. I am probably being harsh Kim - sorry !! I've tried them.. and just not my cup of tea.. it's kinda like we should start covering Sebastians band - Soul Coughing etc.. where's the line ? Oh i dunno. PS - I admire anybody who answers back publically and is able to stand their ground. No way am I gonna take offence to what you've put ! If you have nothing to feel guilty about - then no harm at all having a good head to head !! Bring it on. |

Wow, Lozza...
Pretty harsh, but if that's you're opinion, than I have to accept it as that. It certainly does not affect how I feel about you, I hope you know that. I will have to say that we (Paul and I) just saw them at Largo and LOVED them. In fact they were so "ON" they WOWed us! We just bought tickets to see them Thursday 9/19 at Spaceland; which we thought we were going to miss due to a back-to-school night, but it turns out it's is 9/18... so YEAH we get to GO!!!!! I think the reason they are being posted about in "related bands" is because Shon Sullivan has been Neil's guitar player now for this last US tour as well as Australia and Europe, correct? So, he is "related". I hope he continues to tour with Neil. In fact, "Goldenboy" opened for Neil at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA on 3/12/02 and we loved him then! Neil has also referred to him as one of his "friends", so I think it is appropriate for "Goldenboy" to be spoken about here on the Frenz forum in related bands. Just mho. It just goes to show that even people who like each other don't always agree... or HAVE to agree. I hope you have a good day and don't get too upset that there being are those of us who like "Goldenboy." shalom, Kim (Just had to edit because my typos were driving me mad. |

Yikes, Lozza! Mind the venom dripping down your chin. I saw Shon Sullivan at The Coachhouse, opening for Neil back in March, and he was beyond fabulous. I'm glad to see they're getting a great deal closer to Florida than Neil managed, although Athens, GA is still a bit of a drive from Orlando. See what you can do, Silke. |

It is not at all like Lozza to post a diatribe just to get a reaction
Watch for Goldenboy's new CD, "Lozza Trash" at your local music shop soon. Edit starts here- Soul Coughing would be fair game (as is Pearl Jam, Hothouse Flowers, Midnight Oil, etc., that contain members of bands that have performed with the Frenz) alas, Soul Coughing are no more. |

It seems like folks either love Goldenboy or hate them. I am in the love 'em camp, myself. I first saw Shon perform when he opened for Neil at The Coachhouse a year and half ago or so...
We had dinner reservations and sat across from two ladies who'd driven down from LA. They were big fans of Aerosmith and other glam rock-type acts. But one of them was an immense Neil fan, which I thought was interesting given her other musical tastes. They HATED Shon's set and rolled their eyes (in a good natured kind of way) when I returned to the table after he finished with a copy of the Goldenboy CD in hand. Gross generalization time: I think that some people prefer musicians to be dressed up and for the show to go off without a hitch. Then there are others who prefer to see musicians up on stage in old beat-up trainers, flubbing up songs as they adjust their guitar's tuning, etc... I think I'm in that latter group and the ladies sitting across from us at that show are in the former. Goldenboy has a very unrefined quality to it, but I hardly think that detracts from the lovely music they make. I really enjoy watching others make music, it's very educational and inspiring! What I'm most floored about isn't that someone dislikes Goldenboy (beauty being in the eye, or ear, of the beholder, or listener) but that someone suggested that Goldenboy wasn't an appropriate topic for the Related Bands area of this forum. A couple of other posters have listed some good reasons for why Shon/Goldenboy are related to Neil and thus to frenz.com, so there's no need for me to reiterate. I think that the fewer rules there are as to what we can all get together and talk about, the better. To anyone going to a GB show while they tour, I'd love to read a recap! |
