Many of you have or will see Shon in the next few days and weeks with Neil and I thought this might be the right time to remind of the mailinglist Smiler

We get MP3s, videos of shows, chords, contact to the band, latest news and gossip, chats with band members if their PCs happen to work Wink ...er.... NICE PEOPLE anyway, many musicians on the mailinglist itself... It's just a place with many cool people, propably the only fan chat that did karaoke Wink *ahem*

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goldenboymailinglist

You know you want us Wink

You get access to all the old pre-Goldenboy songs (Moonwash) if you like and of course we often talk about Neil or the other musicians Shon worked with (Elliott Smith, Spain, Devics, Plasticsoul...)

So just come over, check it out and if you don't like it, you can still leave us again Smiler

xx

It was so nice to briefly catch up with Shon and Bryan during SXSW. Lovely guys Smiler I took a bunch of photos during their festival set ; you can find them here : http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v494/poptartgirl/Goldenboy/

Since I was unable to edit my post, I wanted to mention that you'll need to drop the commas from the end of the band website links in order for them to work Wink.

It was announced on Monday that Bryan Bos (drums) unexpectedly left the band due to personal reasons. Goldenboy kicks off the next leg of their tour with Chris McFarland on May 17th in Austin, Texas. Also, look for Goldenboy as the opening act for the Rentals Summer/Fall Tour. The first date with the Rentals will be June 24th in Bakersfield, CA.

Wow! We're really looking forward to the Portland date. We haven't seen Goldenboy live before (except for a solo Shon opeing for Neil in SF a few years back) but we're finally on board. Hope to see a few of you there...

I saw a tour poster at Waerloo Records today in Austin. In addition to the May 17th date, there appears to be a 2nd date in Austin on June 4th at a place called Scoot Inn.

Mini-interview with Shon Sullivan from the Austin Chronicle :

http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Calendar/MusicL...StartTime=2007-05-17

The road is manifest in Shon Sullivan’s voice, so he speaks slowly and purposefully. After years spent touring as keyboardist for Elliott Smith (who inadvertently named Sullivan’s solo project), the Rentals (whom he goes out on the road with again this fall), and Johnny Marr, he’s finally at the wheel of his Diamond Bar, Calif., trio, Goldenboy.

This time out, Goldenboy’s melancholy is tended by Austin’s Chris McFarland on drums, subbing for longtime drummer Bryan Bos. The crystalline pop echoes Southern California, but Sullivan’s lyrics tend toward his fallen friend, mentor, and touring mate Smith.

“I’m a huge fan of his music,” gushes the tender-voiced frontman. “I play his songs on the piano each morning.

“Some of the songs on the first record were written while on tour together. One song that he particularly liked, [‘Summertime’], he just went into the studio and recorded these amazing backing vocals on it. He just did it.

“That was the sweetest thing to hear. He was a really big influence, and a super, super guy,” Sullivan remembers. “We’re all part of our influences.”

Smith’s mark is obvious on Sullivan’s 2006 sophomore LP, Underneath the Radio (Eenie Meenie), which oozes heartbreak and invincibility, new beginnings and sad memories. “Oftentimes, the lyrics are what’s going on on the outside, and the music is what’s going on in the inside, or vice versa,” he explains. “I always like the contrast of stuff.”

Goldenboy drives into town with new bass player Daniel Conrad in their retrofitted biodiesel mini tour bus. “It’s been pretty fun, saving a little bit and helping out however we can,” he says of touring green. “Really, the main people who are doing it are just bands, because who else needs to travel 300 miles a day?” – Darcie Stevens

I saw Goldenboy kick off their current tour last night and had a blast ! It was a late show but it was worth staying up for Smiler. Don't forget to check the list of tour dates in the posts above. This summer, they will also be the support band for The Rentals (featuring Matt Sharp, ex-Weezer).
