G'day all!

I have always been a huge Finn/CH/Spilt Enz Fan and have most of their albums (well every CH and Finn Brothers album. Only have "best of" type albums with Split Enz). Anyway, when a new Finn project was released I went out promptly to buy it (I had heard some on National radio JJJ and generally liked what I heard). This particular one was "She Will Have Her Way" - where well known Australian and NZ female recording artists have covered Finn brothers songs.

Personally, my reactions were very mixed. I felt that some of the artists that covered their songs did a pretty good job, whilst others did not do them any justice. I have high expectations of Finn song covers LOL.

So, anyone else have it and what were your thoughts? Smiler

P.S: I hope that this is in he right section. If not, is it possible to move it to where it is more applicable? I am still new to this forum and finding my way around. I did do a search for this topic though.

My Crowded House CD is currently jammed in my car's CD player. It has to be sent to Melbourne to get it out. But it's worth it Smiler

Hi FinnWizz. Welcome to the forum. Smiler

Yes, I do have this album but personally I have never listened to disc one. I only brought it for the limited edition 2CD set with the original versions on disc two. Smiler

I think we have discussed this before, cos I remember reading about it here on the forum but I can't for the love of me remember where. Red Face

Thank you for your welcomes Smiler

I agree with you about listening to only Disc 2 now. Me too SmilerThat is the best bit about it really. A good collection of the originals.

That link to the previous thread was good. I did not find that earlier. I probably searched incorrectly Red Face. But many of the others in the thread thought the same as me about it. It looks like it is a case of mixed reactions all round. Smiler

I know the album has been discussed on the board before. I finally bought myself a copy, but only the single disc one as I already have all the originals with the other Finn material I have.

I haven't heard everything yet, and I know that there is at least one song cover on it that I do not like. In general, though, my stance on covers, which seems to differ from that of the majority of Finn fans, is that I like them. A cover successfully done reflects positively back on the songwriter for creating a good song in the first place.

some really talented girls signed up for that album & covered some really classic songs. however i don't think many (if any?) of them did any of the songs any justice. maybe i love the finns too much that it's just my very biased opinion haha. but regardless, it's one hell of a tribute to the boys, one that's long overdue. the music culture of new zealand & auzzie owe these two boys so so much (more)

Very true! Some very talented girls all round. I guess that my expectations were very high.

One of the best covers I ever heard of a Finn song was actaully by Damien Leith on "Australian Idol". I was never a fan of the show and did not know much about him, but I tuned in one night when I heard this cover, and boy, did he nail it! I stopped what I was doing to listen to him (it was on the background whilst cooking dinner). He sang "Message to my Girl" and it was really very, very good. I wonder if Neil was watching that night and what his thoughts were?

But on the girl cover front with the album, Natalie Imbruglia's cover of "Pineapple Head" was my favourite. Perhaps because it suited her voice so well. My other favourite one, was Missy Higgins' cover of "Stuff & Nonsense".

I agree. Stuff & Nonsense and Pineapple Head were the pick of the bunch.

A friend of mine discovered the original to Stuff & Nonsense after hearing Missy's version. It's not one of her favourite songs.

For me, I don't mind most of them, now that I"ve had a chance to listen at least once to all. There was one, though, that I immediately changed forward to the next song. I forget waht it was, just that I did NOT like it.

One that I did like, though, was Stellar*'s version of "Persuasion." So many Tim fans act like that is his song to end all songs, but I was never too fussed by it. In fact, I could say I almost prefer Stellar*'s version to his original. Yes, Finn-blasphemy, I know.
