My copy of Enzso arrived yesterday, but I've got someone staying with me for the next few days. Mad Isn't it always the way?

It might be tough - I'm dying to put this on. Big Grin

Spot on Big Grin

Its brilliant.

I had been going to skip over Annie Crummer doing I Hope I Never (I've never thought anyone could do that as well as Tim), however I was captivated by it.

Just listening to Tim doing Dirty Creature now. (How long's it going to be before he's back to do more shows in Melbourne? Frowner)

If you're in doubt about Enzso, just do it. I'm now wondering what took me so long. Razzer

I love the first Enzso album, it's fantastic. My dream would be for Timbo to record a vocal for the EnzSo arrangement of I Hope I Never, now that he can hit those notes again. I like Annie Crummer's version too though. Dave Dobbyn's Poor Boy is just sublime.

Will wonders never cease? Eeker Despite not really being a Finn etc fan, my houseguest loves the songs on Enzso.

A particular favourite of both of us is now Neil singing Stuff and Nonsense.

This CD is an absolute gem. I've been playing nothing else for the past couple of days. Won't be long now till its worn out Roll Eyes

Really loving myself rotten with it. Wink Big Grin Razzer

I absolutely love Neil's version of this - great vocal. I love too that it starts with the middle bit (my technical term for it Wink instead of the normal intro.

Annie Crummer's version of IHIN grew on me over the years. I wasn't wild about it at first.

C'mon Texas Rose--give us your opinion on MTMG!!

I freaked the first time I heard it. And I love how to this day--he sometimes utilizes the "alternate ENZSO version ending" when he performs this live.

Sorry Martine. Razzer

This has always been a favourite song of mine anyway, but I suppose I should say S&N and MTMG are now particular favourites. Big Grin

I guess that because of my familiarity with MTMG, although it struck me when I first heard it on Enzso, I had probably taken for granted that I would still love it. Which I do. Smiler

Stuff and Nonsense done by Neil caught me by surprise and was unexpected. Big Grin

I also love Neil doing Voices. That's another favourite song of mine by him, and given the Enzso treatment I think has given it a whole new dimension. (Along with S&N and MTMG).

I don't play the CD in song order. Message is first, then Stuff and Nonsense, then Voices, then I usually head for whatever takes my fancy. I know I'm leaning towards the Neil songs here, but that's not to say that I don't love I See Red and Dirty Creature etc equally as well.

Its a fantastic CD. You'd be wanting to rush out and buy the other one on the strength of it, but thankfully Camus mentioned that the Finns aren't on it, because I can't quite imagine their songs performed in this way without their input.

The one song I can't listen to seriously on the album. Sounds like Timbo doing Meatloaf.

What did you make of Dave Dobbyn TR? I thought his versions of Poor Boy and My Mistake were better than the originals. When I heard the EnzSo version of MTMG live I was deeply moved. That doesn't happen often for me.

Big Grin I still love him though Roll Eyes

Surprisingly, I've really enjoyed Dave Dobbyn doing these songs... and I had made up my mind that I wouldn't like them at all. Razzer Silly really. I probably wouldn't go so far as to say that I like them better than the originals, but done Enzso-style by Dave, they are standouts.

I'd dearly love to hear Enzso MTMG (and S&N come to think of it) performed live. Smiler Was there an Enzso concert Camus?

EnzSo did indeed tour Australia back in late 96 or early 97. I saw it live with the MSO at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, still got the ticket and the programme somewhere.

There's been a Split Enz reunion recently and Crowded House are back together. I think Enzso should be next.

Damn - another gem that I missed. Mad

Agreed AGM, although the boys would be complete wrecks if they did all the things we've got them doing. Big Grin Its the thought that counts though. Wink

Perhaps its a case of there being a time and place for everything. Maybe Enzso just fitted in at that time and place and was right for then.

For anyone still looking for this, Real Groovy has both versions in stock, new and 2nd hand. It tends to be quite freely available in NZ.

For my few cents worth, I really like the 2nd one, even without any Finn presence. For a while there I wa listening to it more than the first, though that could be because it took me a lot longer to get it.

Great show.

I think Dave Dobbyn's version of Poor Boy was brilliant. I still love the True Colours version best, but this one is amazing. And MTMG was and always will be my favourite Neil Enz song. Smiler

I'm sure I remember seeing Enzso (the CD) advertised on TV, but I distinctly do not remember knowing that there was a concert on. Typical. Roll Eyes

There are some great moments on the second EnzSo album. It's worth it just for One Step Ahead. The orchestration of Semi Detached I remember being really good too, can't say I liked Wendy Matthew's interpretation. Dave Dobbyn does a good job on The Devil You Know as well, and some very nice choral writing in that too. So there is some good stuff on it, it's worth it TR, I still play it every now and then.

Yes, it was quite interesting with the orchestra. I love watching and listening to orchestras - there's just something amazing about them.

I'm sure they toured the country with it - I know they definately did Adelaide.
