Jimmy Barnes (who the Crowdies performed with at the 1988 EAT show) is apparently going in for open heart surgery on 22nd February. I'd just like to send my best wishes to him and his family. All the best.

I'd like to add my best wishes to that also.

By all accounts, Jimmy is a very generous and genuine guy.

My thoughts are with his family as well.

It's to replace an abnormal aortic heart valve which he's had since birth. My 15 year old son has one too.
Instead of being 3 cusps, the valve is abnormal possibly only having two cusps melded together. The valve works normally until over time, because of it's abnormality, it breaks down and needs replaced.
Because of my son, I was very interested to read this and I wish Jimmy a speedy and complete recovery. He's certainly okay at present as he's still slotted in to appear at the tennis on Sunday!!
Considering the wear and tear Jimmy has put on his valve through his life, (smoking and drinking are not recommended) I'm surprised it lasted until age 50. I hope my son never has to have his replaced but if so, I'm hoping it's much later than age 50.
Wishing Jimmy the best of luck.

Jeepers Creepers, Martine, just go for a regular checkup. Girlfriend had hers replaced about 10 years ago when she was 40.
If its exactly the same part?? Had the choice of a pig's valve or synthetic. She's doing marvellously well, in fact she's hardly ever home and its hard to get a hold of her.

Think she went the synthetic that way didn't have to take anti rejection drugs.

All the best again to Jimmy and his family who'll be pacing and the many friends & fans out there too.

i think i misunderstood...i thought he was having his mitral valve replaced not the biggie aortic one. something i read somewhere talked about the mitral valve.

i have mvp which is barely a heart murmur, so no big deal at this stage...now that you know more about me than you really wanted to know! Wink

mr barnes strikes me as young and strong and healthy--he'll come thru this with flying colours....like your friend...i trust no one will be able to keep up with him afterwards!
