Wow, the 1975 "Space Waltz" album with Enzman Eddie Rayner and Citizen Band's Brent Eccles and Greg Clark has just been reissued as a remastered budget CD! Interesting, I'd read that the master tapes were believed lost. Anyway, I've picked up a copy for just $NZ $11.95, I do like "Out on the Street" Smiler

I heard that some of it was mastered off vinyl... but don't quote me on that yet...

Looking forward to buying my copy, whatever it was taken from.

Space Waltz might be described as progressive glam; Citizen Band were more conventional rock 'n roll. Neither band really sounds similar to the Enz, IMO. You can download a few samples from Audiogalaxy, or so I'm told.

By the way, has anyone heard the "Restless Nights" album by Nigel Griggs and Mal Green's old band, Octopus?

Octopus? Never heard that one... more info, please Flicker.

The Space Waltz CD sounds great! Sounds like original masters to me after all. Nicely remastered. Gives the subwoofer a decent workout. Not sure if it's been remixed or not... "Out on the Street" and "Angel "have different mixes from the single, but they might have been remixed for the original album. CD Costs only NZ$10.00 too, which is about 50 cents US.

There's a rumour that Space Waltz are doing the Citizen Band thing and reforming...
Cool

Flicker - yeah - and I like it.

There's a french repressing CD thing with an extra ep on the CD - it's all good I think. Malcolm and Nigel sound great - it's all great - very much of the time and very much a winner here.

You can read about Octopus at the wonderful All Music Guide

Yeah, the remastering on the Space Waltz CD is great - better than many Split Enz CDs, I must say. I think I prefer the original (7"?) mix of "Out on the Street" though. This version on the album sounds to me like a re-recording - slightly different lyrics, etc.

Getting Somewhere

I'm still awaiting my copy of Restless Night...Plus, but I've recently got the Space Waltz CD - wonderful stuff. I've got a few questions about it:

I noticed on the CD that the name Space Waltz was just the title of the album, not the band's name, and it says Space Waltz by Alastair Riddell. I thought Space Waltz was also the band's name or am I just confused? And,

Track 8, Love the Way He Smiles (what an epic - Eddie's piano is awesome) goes into what sounds like a live take (with audience applause etc) halfway through. There's no detail for each song in the booklet. Does anyone know any info on this track like when/where the live bit was taken?

Hi Jaffaman,
Citizen Band did reform for the NZ radio live show (?) on 13 May (they still sound great), but do you know if there are any other future plans for them like recording or playing gigs? Or was it just for that particular gig? Hey, but if Space Waltz are reforming, then it means that Citizen Band will have to lose its guitarist (Greg Clark) and drummer (Brent Eccles), huh?

Alistair Riddell and Eddie Rayner are recording for an upcoming Space Waltz album. That's as close to a reunion we'll get for a few months or more. Don't know if anyone else has had any input yet.

As for remastering, it's been confirmed that the original 2-track stereo tapes were used. No remixing other than careful EQ and limiting. A lot of time was spent getting this sounding right. Darn good job.

Both UK and NZ versions are available online through Sydney's Red Eye Records. The UK import is pricier, naturally.
