Miles Golding, original Split Ends member 1972-73, is back in New Zealand for a short time, performing in three concerts in Wellington, Havelock North and Hamilton.

The Wellington concert is part of a Wellington College old boys 40th reunion, so I'm not sure if it's open to the public, but there's no harm in asking if you're interested:

Chris and Miles are returning to the College for their 40 Years On Reunion in late October this year and have kindly offered to perform a Benefit Concert with the College’s Orchestra.

Just had a look at Miles' website, and it's pretty interesting. If you want the lyrics to 'Click Go The Shears', that is the place to go! Nice to see what Miles has done throughout his life.

Interesting, I just gave Miles a mention on the Second Thoughts "Maiden Voyage" thread a couple weeks ago.

This is really great news. I'd love to hear him perform the Debussy sonatas especially. It's really nice to hear a good string player in a small ensemble setting. What a great opportunity for those who can make one of the concerts.

And I see from his website he was in Gainesville, Florida, last year! Geez, had I known I would have made the drive up to see him if he was performing there.

Any chance he might be passing through Melbourne to visit YOU KNOW WHO???

If you go to this particular page on Miles' website http://www.milesgolding.com/NZHouse.html you can download an mp3 of him performing a Douglas Lilburn sonata in a recital hall in 1976, the same year he guested on Second Thoughts!

Lilburn was one of New Zealand's most notable composers of chamber and orchestral works.

Fans of the early Enz particularly of those most magic of beginning days should give this a listen.

What a beautiful treat!

Jaffaman's done well to collate all the details!
Yeh, the Wellington College concert is open to all. My visit to NZ was sparked off by the 40 Years On school reunion. In addition to the Haydn and Vivaldi, Chris and I are playing a few bits and pieces - Bach E major sonata last mvt and Cesar Franck last mvt, and short solo pno and vln pieces (I'm doing last 2 from Bach's C major solo vln sonata). We've been rehearsing with the orchestra this week - they're great. Music there has vastly improved since my day. Looking forward to hearing the jazz band, choir, wind ensemble over the next few days. Tonight we're guests of honour at the Music Awards dinner!

Glad you like the Lilburn EE. Of course it's just the opening few bars I've loaded on the site. I love the piece. Douglas was around when I was at VUW, and I remember him making a heartfelt address to the National Youth Orchestra in about 1966. It's on some recordings that were made of the concert. I think my Mum has the LPs. I'm a bit embarrassed to put it all the sonata up on my site, I don't think it's good enough - too many fluffs, like in bar 48 just before it fades....maybe I'll add some other bits from that programme... have to do some editing though.

Gainesville came at the end of one of a very enjoyable US tour with the English Concert - we all felt it was one of the best. All Mozart. Sorry to miss you EE!

As for Melbourne - I haven't given up! There was a near miss, I called in on the way home - was it Feb 2005? - and had arranged to see Phil but sadly his Mum died and he couldn't be there.
I really want to see him to learn how to design good websites~~ hehe..

If you've got a moment check this out.. the next genzeration... Tom writes some great songs, Oscar's on bass (and watch out for the quick change of guitarist)

Surely you'll be attending, so a review would be lovely ol son.
Should see if Miles could make it on down to Dunedin, seems to be where alot of the musical fans live. Food for thought.

Whoah! So how do we know this isn't one of the many Miles Golding impersonators... three of whom live right here in my town! Hah hah! What a great surprise to see you post here, man!

I've convinced a friend of mine in Auckland to make the drive down to see your Hamilton show. He shares my excitement over that particular program -- Debussy, Lilburn, etc., and realizes your importance to NZ's music history as well! He's part of Auckland's 'experimental sound art' scene, which cites Lilburn's electro-acoustic work as a seminal influence. So get out your cicadas, frogs, and oscillators, matey!!! Hee hee...

Well, I gotta be off to bed now, but you'll be hearing more from me soon, good man!
Best of luck with all your shows!
