Disclaimer: The only reason I am asking this question is to assure myself that I am not the only one who is bugged by this. I'm sure that some people might criticize the way I sing and play the guitar, but we are all responsible for our own actions and opinions, right? What I'm trying to say is that I am not being mean to Lisa, I just want to relate to people. Okay, done with that.

Now, my question is, does anyone else get bothered by watching Lisa Germano wiggle around on 7 Worlds Collide? It is so distracting to me! I think the camera man has a crush on her too, because she is shown almost more than anyone else in the show. It's that head-bob thing that she does when she sings. I've managed to get over it and ignore it while watching now, but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem. Thanks! Wink

Ahh yes, This fits into "How to spot if something has been filmed by a man" Wink as I'm sure there were way more than necessary shots of Lisa in 7 worlds collide. Especially when she was bobbing about.
I guess i sort of had the same problem. Though it was only distracting because the camera kept flicking to her every few minutes. Had it not kept on doing that, then I probably wouldn't have noticed or it wouldn't have been as distracting. Not that I mean the cameraman should have kept the thing glued to Neil for the whole performance, it should have been glued to one of the 2 Eds.. heh Wink just joking... Smiler

I agree entirely! Her artistic gyrations have bugged me since I first saw her, fine musician that she is. The worst moments for me are the times when she is sitting on the keyboard stool but STILL can't keep her rump still or stop waggling her head about. She is almost sideways on to the keys at times and, to paraphrase an old Rowan Atkinson joke, plays keyboards as if there is something coming out of her bottom. Somebody fetch a doctor!!

I personally find myself unable to keep still to any of Neil's tunes. I don't blame her at all. In fact, I would wonder what was wrong with her were she not gyrating. Razzer

Well, I'm going to have to disagree completely! Smiler I love Lisa's dancing around. She seems to be totally into the music & is just enjoying herself. Particularly during She Will Have Her Way. To be honest, I've been known to dance around like that to Neil's music too. Who can help it?! Big Grin

Are we being catty? Big Grin Just joking.

Actually, I had the same problem when I first saw the DVD. It seemed like she was screaming out for attention.

But, I have to admit, I move a lot to Neil's music too. It's infectious, isn't it? How can you not???? And if you were in the position to be able to sit up there WITH HIM... SINGING...

Well, I think I'd EXPLODE out of my skin! Big Grin

I do think they should have kept the camera on Neil more; especially on some of his unique chord formations for some of the songs. I mean, just as it's getting to the chord you want to see... there's Lisa bobbing around. OH NOOOOOO! BACK TO NEIL! And of course by the time they're back, he's done. AAAARRRRRR.

I can watch now and just let her do her thing without getting irritated. Maybe I've become desensitized. Big Grin

if some are bugged my lisa's wiggling on the piano, do not, i repeat, do not watch tori amos!! Wink

i like the wiggles and the bobs, means they're getting into the music. like sebastian, he takes over that bass, i just love it!

yeah, if people just stood there and played without once getting into what they were playing, that would make for a very dull show.

my fav is neil's foot stomping. every now and then he plays a note on the guitar and the leg comes up and slams back into the ground. yeeeaaah!

We saw Tori a few years ago at the Coach House and I swear to gawd, I thought she was going to either fall or slide off the piano bench. I used to really like her until she sang a song called "father lucifer" (UGH!!!!!) on Letterman. (BLAAAAAA - got to get that off my perverbial tongue!)

I think perhaps the difference though, to some, is that Tori girating and Neil stomping his foot, seems in order, as they are and should be the center of attention. If you have someone in the background doing so, it's a form of upstaging the person who should be the focal point.

Someone must have said something to Lisa to tone it down, because she certainly wasn't as annimated on the tour, or she was just tired by then. Wink

Smiler I certainly hope, and can not imagine, that anyone would tell somebody who is enjoying themselves in such a joyful way to tone it down, especially Neil. At Park West she was quite animated. I adore her (and am insanely jealous Razzer ).

My favorite Tori Amos story-

Tori is playing, no band backing her. 3 women in the front row are jabbering away about something (why oh why do these people go to shows and movies to talk???? I have a Neil story too...) and Tori shoots them the Evil Death Glare. They, of course, do not notice. Tori stops playing, but they continue talking, not noticing. Tori gets up, walks over in front of them. They finally notice. Tori says, "You obviously aren't here to see me. You need to leave and go somewhere that you can talk. I will not play anymore until you leave." The crowd goes wild. The women leave.

No, I didn't mean Neil, Sue. Usually it's one of our "friends" or companions that share that type of info. I know from having been in a few bands. It's not something easily shared by bandmates, because you don't want to put up walls. But you should hear the things that those close to you will tell you. One of my old bandmates used to get a checklist of things from his girlfriend. Needless to say, she's not the one he eventually married. He was a nice guy and probably still is. But I know he used to "get it" every time she saw us play.

So, rest assured, it wasn't Neil I was speaking of. Big Grin

I enjoyed the Tori Amos story too! (LOL) Good for her! No musician like to be disrespected like that!

I love Lisa's wiggles! I don't find it distracting at all. And I completely doubt that she's trying to steal the show. I saw her at Largo a few weeks ago and she asked people not to clap at the end of songs, that it made her nervous. She said at the end of the show that we were a great audience because we helped her forget that we were there. I get the idea she doesn't so much enjoy the spotlight as the music. I take her movements when playing with Neil to be a rapturous appreciation of the music that's being made. Also, note that she crouches down a lot when playing the violin. I was trying to watch her at a couple of shows and she kept disappearing from view.

I got into her through Neil but have grown to love her music just as much as his. I think the combination of the two of them is just incredible. I was so glad to see that she sang with him on One All's Turn and Run. If you listen to the One All interview disc that was given out at shows on the latest tour, Neil said that it was no insult to Sheryl Crow, but that Lisa had made the song her own during all the touring. Couldn't have said it better myself - Go Neil!!

I also wanted to say that I liked all the shots of Lisa on the 7 Worlds DVD. And I'm not male or otherwise interested in Lisa sexually. I just want to be her when I grow up (and not solely so that I can play music with Neil. Wink )

Cheers,
Christe

to tell u the truth, lisa annoys me full stop. I'm sure she's a great musician and all that, but i can't bring myself to watch her songs on the DVD, and ...i dont know...she just doesn't gel with me.

ohhh and when she said "i don't do black keys" for some reason that made me cringe. I'm sure she's a nice person etc...but...i skip her on the DVD everytime.

LMAO @ Bedlamite!!!

I thought after seeing Lisa on tour that I wouldn't be bothered by her anymore. I reasoned that maybe the reason she bothered me is that she gets to be onstage with Neil and I don't, and well, now I had my turn too so I have no right to be bothered anymore...

Unfortunately there are instances, LIKE the DVD and like the comment about "not doing black keys," that irritate me incredibly, even still. Let's just say there's one part of the DVD where her movements (to me, anyway) could be associated with a porno movie (but I'm NOT going any further to explain!!!!). How can any self-respecting professional keyboardist avoid black keys? Arrrrgh! Eeker

I thought "OH BROTHER" in Chicago when she kept walking up the line of us to try and get recognized.

I've seen her good, and I've seen her bad. Just depends, I guess...like any of us.

My son (all of 8 years old) calls her "weird girl". "Oh, here comes weird girl again." If that wasn't funny enough, you should see him imitate her! His butt wiggles around on the couch while he's pretending to play the keyboard. It's hysterical! I think I could do with a little less of her myself...

Hehehe..."weird girl"....that's cute....we laff about her "...love is weird song..." all the time! And it's not even her "gyrations" that bug me...cripes, how can she NOT move to the music?! (If I was up there in her place, there'd be a thread saying "That Sue chick has Tourette's!!!")... But it IS her singing that grates on me... Eeker ...UGH...and I thot that long before 7WC and seeing her on Neil's tour this summer...Lisa's on a tribute album to the late Laura Nyro and she completely massacres the song she sings...makes me shudder just thinking of it...

So...if her WIGGLIN' bugs ya...just do what I do when she SINGS...use that time wisely...go get another beer... Razzer Wink

I just feel bad that she always looks like hell. Vintage without style. The wiggling doesn't bother me, but the hunching down, stringy hair, and ill-fitting mis-matched wardrobe are not working for her.

I was so happy to just have that DVD that i dont care about anybody wiggling! And as for Lisas appearance, she had a problem with a stalker when she toured with John Mellencamp, and i hear that that makes you not want to be noticed as much about how you look.(not that i think she looks bad) I am also a huge Tori fan and i love that story! Why go to a show just to talk? I would rather sing along myself!

Just so you know...

Lisa looked quite good when she sang solo at Largo; possibly touring around on a bus with a bunch of guys doesn't help the wardrobe situation. Besides she wasn't there to stand out, but rather to back up and support; which she did.

I had my problems with Lisa in the past, so I can totally understand where everyone who is dissing her is coming from... however, I believe she has proved herself worthy of being one of Neil's support team.

She also has proven herself as a solo artist, as my husband and I are VERY VERY picky and we've seen her twice now, and hopefully have reservations for the third time next week.

I think, if we all wanted to, we could find something to pick apart about anyone. And I'd venture to say, anyone could do the same with each of us... Boy I know that for ME! (I do so wish I could be perfect, but alas...)

So as long as we all know and can agree that we are ouselves not perfect... and we're all in the same boat together... have at it. Big Grin
