What a decision! OK, Neil for singing, song-writing, thoughtful lyrics, Tim for pure entertainment value. I'd have them both at a party, but at opposite ends of the room. Neil in the intellectual side and we'd all be straight there as soon as the party begins - talking philosophy, putting the world to rights. Then Tim would be at the moody, hazy end (smoke, whiskey, strobe lighting, you know) and we'd all be there at 3 in the morning, thinking we had found the meaning of life, discovered pure something or another. Anyway, we'd end up in the morning and realise that the only bit that makes sense sober was the bit we heard fom Neil!
Is that allowed?

This being an entirely original topic that has never been discussed in any form since the beginning of time... I tell you what - Why don't we search through every version of this topic here on the board, every thread from the various mailing lists, interview everyone who's ever even met both of them, create the definnitive answer - And forward it on to the afterlife, should there be one, for the purposes of eternal judgment... Or we could just get on with our lives ...

As I've said before, neither write the same way or about the same things, nor are their arrangements remotely the same, so essentially it's apples and oranges, ie you can't really compare them.
The better question to ask surely would be which one do you prefer, not which is better, there by creating a highly subjective answer, after all, it's all in the ear of the listener.

Absolutely right. I like both apples and oranges for their different qualities at different times depending on my mood. The same goes for Neil and Tim. Both are very tasty. (Apples and oranges of course....!)
