Does anybody know any other instances of the Finns crediting books as inspiration for lyrics? I remember Neil saying that the line about bees and honey in Locked Out was stimulated by the character Honey Barbara from Bliss by Peter Carey (at least I'm assuming it was the book - it might have been the movie for all I know!) and I just recently got my hands on a copy of The Tyranny of Distance which is quoted in Six Months. On another thread, Finngirl said Ian McEwan's The Child in Time showed up in People Are Like Suns. What else do you know?
This doesn't really have to be limited to Neil and Tim. Any member of the various bands who have admitted to an inspiration is of interest. For instance, in the clips from the Enz With A Bang tour, Nigel is seen reading one of the Seth books by Jane Roberts. Did it give him any ideas? |

Hi Message Girl
It was Saturday that I had read inspired the opening line in People Are Like Suns (while The Child In Time was Neil's fave Ian McEwan book at the time another story was printed, he has had more books since). But anyway basically the opening of Saturday has a man standing in his bedroom/balcony watching a plane go down in flames post 9/11.And he is abosored by that. His wife is asleep in the bed behind him and his thoughts turn to..... Perhaps also inspiration(or partly)for the line 'what kind of fool imagines love with all this going on' (that was just my thought anyway) I think Amsterdam is my fave Ian McEwan book, very closely followed by Saturday |
