From www.teawamutu.co.nz (and thanks to my friend Sue who gave me the heads up Smiler)

It has been 24 years, but the wait for both Finn brothers to publicly perform back in their hometown will be worth it in more ways than one.

The Finn Brothers concert is being promoted by Backstage Pass, with all profits going to the Gracelands fundraising effort for their new headquarters. Backstage Pass is Dean and Robyn Taylor — school friends of Neil Finn. They say its the ultimate show for them to be promoting and are looking forward to a successful venture for the town and for Gracelands.

The Taylors sent Neil information about Gracelands and the fundraising required when the project first kicked off.

‘‘We weren’t getting our hopes too high because the brothers have a huge workload at present, with Split Enz, Crowded House, solo ventures and production work on the go,‘‘ says Mr Taylor. ‘‘It was with some surprise that the call came with a July 25 date for a charity concert — but it was certainly gratefully received and is a very generous offer.’’

Apart from the opening of the Te Awamutu Museum’s True Colours exhibition in 2000, the Finn brothers haven’t played here in public since Split Enz played Albert Park as part of the town’s 1984 centenary celebrations. For the oneoff charity concert Neil will be returning to his old school — Te Awamutu College has donated the use of the hall for the fundraiser.

Tickets for the show will go on sale late next week once all preparations are finalised. There is to be a premium reserved front section and general admission, on a first in best seated basis. Tickets sales will be advertised next week and will be available via TicketDirect and from the Te Awamutu i-SITE Centre.

I've only just seen this thread, so what did I do... I dived in and bought tickets to these two events Eeker

I've ended up with two tickets for the Saturday night and one for the Sunday night.

If I'm correct, the TeAwamutu show goes on sale next week? I'd badly want to be at that one Big Grin

If anyone understands differently to that, could they please post?

Bad back or not, I think I'll be back at work very, very soon Big Grin Razzer

Oh thank goodness you've seen this TR, I've been having trouble staying on line to let people know about this, was just about to try again to PM you when I saw you've posted.

I dont know your plans yet.... but any chance you would like to share a ride between TA and Hamilton (even a bus) Big Grin

Not sure what I'll be doing yet FG - still can't believe that I've just gone ahead and done this Eeker

I'll either bus it (yep, would love the company) or may consider hiring a car, simply to be quicker.

I'd be up for sharing that if anyone wanted to go equal parts?

Do you know what you're doing yet yemanja? Smiler

By the way, I believe Air NZ have some special airfares on offer to/from Auckland at present, certainly better price wise than Qantas. Emirates also fly there so worth checking them out too.

I've booked flights using my Qantas points to/from Auckland so thats taken care of nicely. I have a friend who lives in Auckland and has a weekender property about 15 mins from both Hamilton and TA, her being the one that gave me this info in the first place! Hence will probably hang out with her for most of the time as she is also going to come to the shows with me. We can all talk again closer to the time as I'm sure getting between places can be organised so we can share rides etc.

Very exciting indeed Big Grin

I've just booked airfares Eeker

Air New Zealand - $106.00 each way. Very pleased indeed. The fact that I get into Auckland at midnight on 23 July won't be that much of a problem. Eeker

That leaves me Thursday 24 July to travel to TeAwamutu from Auckland, then I'll head to Hamilton on 26 July, then I'll head back to Melbourne on 29 July.

I've had to keep it fairly tight because I can say now that even if my back has dropped right off my body, I will be back at work by then. Big Grin Wink

And it is extremely exciting.

This is just the lift I need. The frigging back has dragged on, going in circles. When I have something specific to aim at I'm very focused.

Someone please reassure me that tix for TeAwamutu go on sale next week!! I'm back at the doctor again next Thursday but it will have to be a quick trip up and back so I don't miss anything!

Can't believe this.

Fantastic that you have a friend over there yemanaja. Smiler

Hopefully I'll get to at least say hello to you at some stage in the proceedings!

When I saw Tim play in December 2006 I flew into Auckland during the day, and he was playing that night. It was extremely tight, and I promised myself that I would never do that again. Smiler

Even though it will cost an extra night's accommodation, I think its worth it.

And my plane leaves at 7:40 am on 29 July. Super Eeker That means I'll have to be at the airport by no later than 5:40 am. I also promised myself that I would never do that again, however I've broken that promise because the fare was such a good price. Plus which, one or two early mornings won't kill me. Big Grin

I'd dearly love to take dA-buP with me, but unless I could get a job with a salary equivalent to that of the Prime Minister, I don't see how it can happen. Big Grin Frowner

It just won't be the same without her. Frowner

That's a great price for flights TR, way to go! And I will keep you up to date on the TA tickets, as to the exact time they'll be on sale.

As for saying hello whilst over there, no doubting this will happen numerous times Smiler Its all very exciting and its a bit deja vu like hey....

Damn Mad

I was hoping you'd maybe be able to do this Kaz.

If I promise to shove all the clothes aside, and take a bigger case, could you consider it? Smiler Wink
