Neil is defintely the one who still sends my heart racing. Even after all this time. Big Grin
And right now Neil is still ahead.

I'm still all for Tim, and I'm gonna be killed for this, but I think that Neil has more clangers than Tim (runs for cover).

More what? Confused Red Face

And why run for cover? Wink The balance between each Finn as far as forum member fans go, surely has to be about 50/50... it's just some people don't wish to vote because they like both equally. Big Grin
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I like both Finns despite what some of my posts in the past might indictate, but Neil's music says something to me that Tim's never could. Smiler I can't put my finger on just what it is though. Perhaps it's down to being a fan of Neil's for a longer period of time. Smiler

Clangers - glaring problems. There are more Neil songs that I don't like than there are Tim songs. And I've heard each song from each album from each Finn. I love both. I just love Tim more.

I'd probably say Weather With You is the most anthemic Finn song. And its a co-write. So the argument still isn't settled.

I hate to break this to you but the argument will never be settled as long as forum members with differing opinions are drawing breath! Smiler

NFA is right - there's a diverse mix of apprecation for both Finns on the forum and some people don't choose at all.

I love Neil. Always have, always will. Tim was my first real pop star idol type of thing when I was a kid so he will always be that something special. I don't always like every piece of music they put out - together or apart - but I've never compared them.

I know it'll never be settled. I was sorta implying that by saying that probably the most anthemic and probably most sung Finn song is a co-write. I love them both, and I love the music of both, but Tim's solo stuff grabs me more.

This thread was created as a continuation of a debate that Greatfox and I had at school...and reading back through it, I think I came across too one-sided and should have expressed my point of view maybe a bit better. Tim Finn is my favourite song writer, not just out of Neil and Tim, but out of everyone who I've heard ever.

Having said that though, Neil would be well up on my list too, I love One Nil (yes I did find it boring at the time this was originally created, but events have happened and certain moments in time have allowed me to find a place for this album) and quite a few tracks off Try Whistling This (even though I think the album's real weakness is in its production and not in the actual songs now that I've heard some beautiful live versions), and Crowded House (Tim or not Tim) has been my favourite band for years now.

I can totally understand why people could like Neil better...you never know quite what Tim will pull out of his head next (in the last 5 years we've had tracks ranging from the ultra-experimental Big Wave Rider, to beautiful pop songs like Horizon, the awesome punch of Feeding the Gods and even a dabble in hip hop with Dei Hamo's Cry Again), while with Neil most of what you get is just pure, clear songwriting (although admittedly sometimes Neil will pull something out too - Elastic Heart and Hole In The Ice are great examples of something a bit different from Neil - I love them both btw).
I guess its just Tim's slightly more off the wall nature that gets me sucked in.

AGM155, if you think that you came across a little bit too one-sided when this thread was started, then how about the rest of us that joined in? Smiler

*Guilty expression from NFA here* Razzer

What do you think made this thread fun and interesting? Smiler

Ok in that case, I'd like to draw your attention to the line in "Not Made Of Stone"..."I stand before you like your long lost man/Tim Finn is what you want him to be"...this backs up my point that Tim is the best (lol even if the line was written by the man himself)

(bear in mind I now own IK and have softened my view on Tim's music from those first posts in this topicBig Grin)
I present the entire lyric for Nails In My Feet as evidence that Neil is better than Tim, there's no song that Tim has written that's that intricate and well-crafted

Oh No. Roll Eyes Here we go again. Presenting songlines/songtitles to represent personal convictions over who is better. Cool Might try to stay behind the fence this time and watch Greatfox & AGM fight it out. Big Grin

PS: I also own IK & Escapade now since first post & vote. THAT'S WHY I'M STAYING OUT OF IT! Wink

Big Grin you should see us argue about it in person! I can't make fun of any of the TF songs he sings because he'll disown me as a friend for days Razzer
