Getting Somewhere

small web article:

Neil and Tim Finn have enlisted old mates Nick Seymour, Eddie Rayner and legendary session drummer Joey Waronker to back them for their historic headlining Homebake gig on December 3.
Tim said the Finn brothers would break in the new band with a warm-up show on December 1 at Sydney's Enmore Theatre.

"The Homebake performance will be a lovely way to finish off the year Neil and I have spent together and it will be the last thing we do together for a while," the elder Finn brother told music writer Kathy McCabe yesterday.

"Neil and Nick were reunited in Dublin and are keen to play together again and we both love the idea of Eddie sliding around the piano with us."

Tim said the pair remained overwhelmed by the reception they have received since the release of their brotherly album, Everyone Is Here.

The highlights of the year-long tour included their WaveAid acoustic duet, the Sydney Opera House shows in July and their punk rock blast-out at Splendour In The Grass.

Thanks for sharing that Cradle!

The question of who would fill Hessie's shoes has been discussed quite a bit.....so now we know for sure. I'm sorry to say that I haven't actually heard of him but I'm quite sure that he'll be brilliant.

Here's a good little bio on Joey from Bic Runga's website (Joey played on her Beautiful Collision album)...

Joey Waronker is one of the most sought after musical collaborators in the industry. Until recently, Joey was engaged in the impressive feat of being the full time studio and touring drummer for both BECK and R.E.M.

Joey has performed on BECK CDs including “Loser”, “Beercan”, “Mutations”, “Odelay” and “Midnight Vultures”.

He played drums on R.E.M.’s “Up” CD as well as R.E.M. contributions to the Austin Powers II and Man on the Moon soundtracks. He most recently played drums on the forthcoming R.E.M. CD “Reveal”. In addition, Joey co-wrote the R.E.M. song “Hastings and May”.

Joey has played on SMASHING PUMPKINS’ “Adore” CD, SPAIN’s “She Haunts My Dreams” CD and ELLIOTT SMITH’s “XO” CD. Joey has also performed on CDs for CREEPER LAGOON, JOHN DOE, PLASTILINA MOSH, REMY ZERO, RICHARD THOMPSON, GUS, WALT MINK and R.L. BURNSIDE as well joining up with TONIC on “You Wanted More” for American Pie.

He provided additional production and remixed THE EELS “Mr. E’s Beautiful Blues” (DreamWorks) as well as CONTROL MACHETE featuring BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB “Danzon” (Universal).

Joey produced the debut MARIE THERESE CD (Island/Universal), produced songs for the forthcoming TOMOVSKY CD (Sony) as well as the song “Ocean In Your Eyes” for MIHO (of Cibo Matto).

Joey composed and produced the score to Sundance standout Chuck and Buck (Artisan).

He recently produced songs for the THE INCREDIBLE MOSES LEROY CD “Electric Pocket Radio” (Ultimatum/Artemis) as well as a forthcoming song for THE EELS (DreamWorks). He’s currently developing and producing the ASSOCIATED MOVING COMPANY featuring NINA PERSSON of THE CARDIGANS and ROGER MANNING (Jellyfish, Beck).

My thanks also Cradle Big Grin

Unless Tim is keeping some information under his hat, it looks as though the Homebake (or at least Enmore) show won't be a prelim get together for Split Enz.

Also interesting to read that the "Finn Brothers" don't intend to pair up again for a while. I hope they eventually do it, and I hope they don't wait for another 8 or 10 years or whatever it was Confused

Lucky Homebake people to see them finish off this most recent collaboration Smiler I hope they go out with a bang, and I hope we get to hear all about it Wink

The Auckland shows in August were supposed to be the last for a while too, so I'm not too worried! Smiler

The Gallagher brothers won't be able to be at Enmore, but I'm still hoping for an appearance by Liam and Elroy. But so far, I don't think it's been mentioned anywhere yet...

But Joey sounds like a very good alternative for Jeremy Stacey!

Betchadupa have a show in the UK on the 28th of November, but they are apparently heading back to Auckland for Christmas, so I guess there is a remote possibility that Liam could be in town. And Elroy is always a chance. We can only hope! Was a nice moment with both of the boys on stage with Neil and Tim last year.
