This is an attempt at polling every song (though I'm sure I missed a couple) that the Finns have ever had a major part in recording.

Round One is a "qualifying round" and is the ONLY round that will group songs together by artist and album. Future rounds will mix Split Enz songs with Crowded House songs, Tim Finn songs with Neil Finn songs, any combination you can imagine. Before we do that, however, we need to severely cut the number of contenders. So, after this poll is complete (however long it takes to get around 75-100 votes) only the top 1/2 of each album will advance to round two.

Below you will find about 32 collections worth of material and your job is simple, select *your* favorite track from each. I have also included to option to ***abstain*** from any given vote. Feel free to abstain as often as you need to. For example, if you've never heard Big Canoe I still want the rest of your votes, just abstain from Big Canoe. Even if you've only ever listened to Crowded House that's fine too, just abstain from everything else.

I'm going to put a link to this poll in my signature so even if it gets buried people should still be able to find it.

(please excuse my typos, it was a lot of typing!)

Thanx Painaporo! This poll will keep me occupied for some days, since I've only recently started trying to catch up on all the Enz stuff ("Corroboree" arrived today).

"I Got You" is winning the True Colours vote? Really?! Eeker

Toughest choices for me:

"My Mistake" vs. "Without a Doubt"
"Poor Boy" vs. "What's the Matter With You" vs. "Things"
"Iris" vs. "One Step Ahead"
"Whispers and Moans" vs. "How Will You Go"
"Fish Hook" vs. "808 Song" vs. "Spirit of the Stairs" vs. "Can You Hear Us"

Easiest:

"Maybe"
"Giant Heartbeat"
"The Devil You Know"
Abstaining from the disaster that is Big Canoe
"Don't Dream It's Over"
"In the Lowlands"
"In Love With It All"
"Nails in My Feet"
"Paradise (Wherever You Are)"
"She Will Have Her Way"
"Drive Home"
"Anything Can Happen"
"Walked Her Way Down"

I dunno exactly why but Disembodied Voices is one of my all time favorites...maybe because of the connection between me and my sister. I just love that song..it means so much to me Smiler

This is a great idea. Thanks for doing it. Whittling down the songs is a big task and it will be interesting to see how the votes go.

The votes in the Temple of Low Men is spread out evenly (so far) across a fair amount of songs.
Nice to see someone else besides me voted for The Refuge Tree. Smiler

Good night from Atlanta.

At what point do you move away from the album format? For instance, there are 4 or 5 songs on Together Alone that I would consider better than virtually anything else on other records. But I only got to vote for one, while lots of lesser songs will make it through from weaker collections.

Thanks for doing this. Smiler

I hope to move past the album voting format after this round. I'll keep the top 50% of each album and the next round will be grouped by artist, I think. I'm pretty much figuring it out as I go along. A potential pit fall will be that between 25%-50% of people voting have apparently not heard a number of Split Enz and Tim Finn albums. Therefor, it might be unfair to ask people to choose between "Love This Life" and "Charlie", for example.

It'll be interesting, to say the least, but first we need to get as many votes as we can for this round. =)

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the poll! Thanks for the compliments, it took a while to type out for sure!

Done! Had to click on 'abstain' for only 3 Enz albums, half of the Crowdies stuff, the 'Steel City' soundtrack and Neil solo. Not bad when I think of how small my Finn collection had been in May this very year (2x CH, 1x Enz and 1x Tim). Guess this is called severe obsession!? Big Grin

I put "She's Not There" in there too. They may be covers but both feature excellent performances by Neil Finn and co. I was just trying to cover all my bases. Wink

Good to see some of the early Phil Judd songs doing so well! (Treason! Off with my head!!!)

But where, oh where, on your list are the Tim Finn/Phil Judd songs from their shortlived reunion collaboration in 1990? Especially "Long Hard Road"?

Ah well, you can please some of the people some of the time.

If I'd remembered them I would've stuck them on as extra tracks ... probably on the Tim Finn album. Sorry about that.
