Hey everyone,I was given a guitar by a friend of mine whos brother works for one of the big record company. The story i was told was that tim finn custom built it from scratch as his personal guitar.apparently there was some drama caused because he was suppose to register it or something but didnt want to so he gave it to my mates brother who in turn gave it to my mate who then gave it to me.I dont know a thing about guitars or tim finn and its been sitting in my closet way to long so i thought id see if anyone would be interested in it.for some reason i cant post photos on here but am happy to e-mail them if someones interested..thank you oh its an electric guitar

Then you haven't seen any live concerts from the True Colours/Coroborree period.

Tim often played what looked like an Epiphone Casino (which is an electric) during those tours. I think he's playing it on the True Colours Club DVD (Charlie is from this on the commercial Split Enz DVD).

Tim a luthier? Learn something every day. But all other things being equal, I'm not sure I'd pay extra for that amateur touch - no offense monsieur Finn.

Best of luck with the sales venture though! A lot of folks are more into something for sheer collectability than other concerns.

I don't think Timbo made it, more likely he said how he wanted it and what it was made of, the company then probably wanted to sell it as part of its signature series and Tim didn't want his name on it. That's what it sounds like reading between the lines.

I must be mistaken then. I have a LARGE collection of live stuff including lots of show from this era but way too much to just sit down and watch it all the time. Thinking about it , Tim was miming with an electric (strat?) on a UK TV appearance. I probably just associate Tim straight away with an acoustic as it seems to have been his guitar of choice for some time.

How about putting them on Photobucket and posting a link so we can all see.

Do you know of a time period where the guitar was made? I know Tim played an electric during a Finn Brothers set (Bumbershoot or Belly-up?), probably around '04.

Surely Tim would have played electric at some point in the studio too.

Never seen Timbo playing a guitar like that, but that doesn't mean he doesn't at home or in the the studio. Certainly on the song Glide from Steel City (1998) Tim is playing an electric.

From our own Kelly Timtam's avatar:

Which looks like it's from the Time and Tide tour.
