ENZ WITH A BANG!!!

What a great end to a mega-awesome series! The guys gave candid recollections on ambivalent feelings about the band breaking up, as well as being relieved about it all being over.

The I Walk Away sequence gave a great insight into Neil's much-laboured, much studied creative process.

The Enz With A Bang section showed the boys in high spirits and performing well despite the end to a great band.

All in all, a great finale to Enzology.

Thanks, Gav.
I felt a bit shakey at the end of the final episode's broadcast. A project I began working on in 1997 had just finished. As I said to Peter Green in an email at the time, it felt like my children had all just left home. Plus, I'd been listening to the radio broadcast in our bombsite of a radio building which we're currently dismantling and shifting elsewhere. So it was all very odd. Thank goodness my partner came by with my daughter just then to pick me up. Saved me from getting too mournful!
Still, there's the repeat broadcast on Tuesday night. And it'll be broadcast again later in the year. No word yet on overseas broadcasts or a CD set.

I'll post the official track list for Episode 10 later this week. Gav's list is almost identical, though.

Fully agree with Semi, it was/is a great series. It compliments the Stranger Than Fiction book quite nicely with added insight from all the interviews.

Must admit it was hard on some Saturday afternoons to go inside and listen to it, instead of basking in the sun with whiskey in hand, but it was well worth it.

As you said 'No word yet on overseas broadcasts or a CD set', but hopefully something will happen to allow the non-resident Split Enz fans to hear it.

Anyway, when do they start taking nominations for the New Years Honours list. We need to to get Jaffaman on the list for 'Services to Split Enz'!!! :-)

"Time For A Change" live from Auckland? My liner notes for "The Living Enz" say it was recorded in Melbourne. Are there any other mistakes in the Living Enz track information?

Who wrote "You Send Me"?

Interesting that "Something So Strong" dates from pre Crowded House days - would have strengthened See Ya 'Round - but then what would have been the follow-up hit to Don't Dream It's Over!

Isn't "You Send Me" originally a Sam Cooke song?

Sorry, that was a typo. "Time For a Change" is from Melbourne. Well spotted. I had intended to use the Auckland performance but only had a short section of it.

Yes, "You Send Me" is a cover of the Sam Cooke song. This version actually segues into "Blue Moon", which I also forgot to include in the list.

Sorry to dig this thread up again, but listening through the final Enzology last night there was part that I didn't quiet understand.

About 5 minutes into Neil is talking about the factors that lead to Tim's departure and says "I wouldn't want to cast him has the bad guy at that time, because there were a lot of factors going on and it wasn't all to do with Tim, it was to do with the band not being as strong or as focused and the thing with Noel earlier had, had a pshycological impact..."

I for the life of me can't remember any incident between Noel & Tim being mentioned in Enzology. Did I miss it, or was it left out and I should mind my own business? Wink

Any help will be awesome Jaffa.

"The thing with Noel" refers to Noel having been replaced on some "Conflicting Emotions" tracks by a drum machine and, in the case of "Message to my Girl", by Rikki Fataar. It wasn't as much a thing between Tim and Noel as a general unsettling of the band as a unit. This was covered in Enzology - Episode 9.

*frantically erases the stamp with soap*

I hope you weren't implying that I am Australian Jaffa, if so, that is quite possibly the cruelest thing I have ever been called! Don't get it wrong, I'm here as one of the many "ambassadors" who are currently assisting Australia with it's distribution of its social welfare money (and then spending it on outrageously patriotic bets on Xcellent to place... Wink )

Thanks for answering the question by the by, it all seems oh so clear now. Now is also as good a time as any to say ENZOLOGY IS BRILLIANT! I loved every second of it, and it rewards many listenings (some are up to 10 on the old playcount) with the various layers of comment & music - you pick somthing new up every time, thus the question! More great work, from the hands of an Aucklander!

Although at the ceasation of the scholarship I wouldn't expect I will have the fortune of trying to find a job in this "new and improved jobs market". Wink

How this directly relates back to Enzology X, I'm not quite sure. Razzer

Probably your comment in the first place: "Jaffa, if so, that is quite possibly the cruelest thing I have ever been called! Don't get it wrong, I'm here as one of the many "ambassadors" who are currently assisting Australia with it's distribution of its social welfare money (and then spending it on outrageously patriotic bets on Xcellent to place... Glad our taxes are keeping the bookies in money Timothius. Hope you get that job, mate Razzer .

Yeah, I thought it might be Paul. It was pre-recorded and played at each show.

By the way, you don't need to credit me in your signature!
