Wow, You have the first 2 singles in Mint Condition which would have the attention of Split Enz collectors.

Although I am no expert, I did collect everything Enz related for over 20 years so I have a rough idea as to what people would pay for such items, especially in Mint condition.

I am wondering if these singles are signed on the label or on the paper sleeve that they come in.

But apart from that, you have 2 of the most sought after items in the Enz catalogue so I would imagine that the first single "For You" would sell for around $250 - $350 & the second single "Sweet Talking Spoon Song" would sell for around $200.

It all depends on what people are willing to spend. Just last year I sold 2 Dutch 7" singles with picture sleeves (My Mistake & Bold As Brass) for a combined total of around $350 which seems rather ridiculous as they are not worth that much considering that I only paid about $20 for one & $50 for the other (only 12 months beforehand). I also sold a Tim Finn Interview Disc for over $600 but it only cost me $60. It is only worth around $100 - $150 so it all comes down to good timing on my behalf when listing items on Ebay (bidding). So if you are lucky enough to get the same bidders on your items, they could easily sell for over $500.

Tip - If you want to get the best possible value out selling your items, it is best to sell them when there is something to hype up the interest such as a Tour or an album release. The 2006 Enz tour did just that & it kept the hype around for about 2 years before it died off again.

HITWings, a few weeks back I mentioned on the Forum people could drop me a quick email and I'd give them a very rough valuation on one or two items.

So far I've had close to a dozen people with the first single and around the same for single #2 and #3. Pretty much what Enzboy says, around $250 mark for FOR YOU. I've actually been surprised that so many copies exist. On Trade Me etc those early 3 do pop up every so often.

I do get quite a few people asking about obtaining 'Matinee Idyll' (AUST) & Great Divide (AUST), probably because they were low sellers (Matinee 282 copies, Another Great Divide-405)
both of these I've seen go for around $120-$150 but awhile back we were at a collectors fair and
I remember one of the Frenz found a copy for $1.10!!!

Sometimes it's just luck, I think one of my NZ first three releases cost me 25c at a second hand shop in NZ when we were touring. I think Eddie Rayner was with me and probably considered killing me for that bargain price!

Every so often I keep an eye open for the first 3 singles for some of the band members, yes a few dont have copies themselves!

I brought of Ebay a less than 2 weeks ago a mint condition of "Another Great Divide"for $3!!
I love it more now knowing that only 405 were sold.

So it was lucky for me Big Grin and not so lucky for the seller

Pez bargain of the week I'd say. I think our archive copy has a 99c sticker on it from when I bought it as a young school boy, when it first came out way back in Jan 77.

Gryph, apart from valuing these items, how do you store your vinyl (singles and LP's)? I've got a small collection happening, and would like to maintain any value that they have by caring for them, and storing them to their best advantage.

Is there a right or wrong way to do it? Is one way better than another?

I've purchased LP's which have arrived, and the vinyl is not even in the cover (which seems sensible because then you don't get the spine damage - presumably).

I suppose I'm wanting to know whether its best to store them laying flat, in or out of the cover (I know my preference on that point) etc.

Any tips gratefully received.

Mostly a dry place, plastic cover around the original cover...not too much weight if flat.

We have a temp controlled security area for most of the archives (one day I'll be locked in and they'll find me mummified in 2060)!

If you do clean them make sure they are dry before you put them back in the cardboard jackets.

We have had very little problem with warping BUT the cheaper covers (like I WALK AWAY 12 inch) are the type to get imprinted by the vinyl if there is too much pressure on the surface. I think just being sensible and keeping them away from hot air con vents etc The flimsy covers tend to wear poorly over time.

It also just popped up on eBay a few weeks ago, along with a couple other early singles. It gutted me that I couldn't bid on it!

I still kept the old Post Office Box 333.... maybe you guys can cremate me and lock me in 333!
*GRIN*
Or I can be placed in Hunters rather cool archival box as 'part of the collection'! (remember to add the mothballs!)
