I got a good laugh out of the heights as well! I once stood right in front of Neil (or rather, he stood right in front of me) when he stopped by the locked front door of the Tower Theatre to inquire as to why we were lined up so early (the night the front row threw pineapples at the band) and he was quite a short sort of fellow, though imposing nonetheless, in his affable way.

why was he inquiring about why you guys were lined up early? that seems weird. at a lot of big concerts, fans will be lined up early so they can get better areas on the floor.
or was he annoyed people were out there or thought something that the venue was being mean to the fans?

Oh, he was probably just making conversation to the people on queue. And as to height, after several encounters I'm thinking 5'10" is about right - it's my own height, and I recall thinking after talking to him in Milwaukee that he wasn't as short as I first imagined.

Well, we were there REAL early. Me and my date were kind of CH freaks, (okay, me more than her, but she was well won over!) and we were there about an hour and a half before the next 5 people showed up (they were the ones with the pineapples, they had grocery bags full of them). In fact, when they showed up, they were aghast that they weren't first in line. They'd seen them the night before in NY, and had been following them around.

Neil wasn't annoyed at all - we saw the bus pulling by, and I guess he saw us there and instead of heading straight to the special entrance he came by to ask "what the f*** are you doing here so early?"

I don't remember his exact words. He may not have said "f***" per se, but his manner conveyed it.

He was really cool! I was playing hangman with my then-love (all CH song titles) and he had a squizz at the paper but didn't hazard a guess, as we'd just begun a new one and only had a couple letters filled in.

I haven't thought of that in years. It was just the height thing that brought it back.

Dude's short.

I have to say, I put him at 5'7" max. I'm only 5'11" myself in bare feet, but he was...no, he had to be shorter than 5'7". I didn't look at his shoes at the time, but if he's 5'10" then I'm ashamed of missing my last dunk attempt because I've gotta be at least 6'4"!

However, as far as I'm concerned, height doesn't matter. That man can do with lyrics and melodies what Angus Young can do with a guitar solo. Height doesn't matter when you're a dead-flat genius.

Yes, he was completely cool. We were at the front door, and the bus had pulled around to a side entrance (where I guess the rest of the band went in), so we were in no wise laying an ambush!

That has to be one of my favorite responses, along with Noel's "favorite pastimes" answer...so endearingly bizzare!

I also think Neil is a bit conflicted in his last two answers...lol!

Anybody know what the deal is with the feeding of chickens as a favorite pastime? Is this an old lyric reference that I've forgotten, or some in-joke?
