Could this mean a DVD release of the movie is on the cards?
Funnily enough, the Nambassa episode of Enzology - The Story of Split Enz plays this Friday night on National Radio... |

By the way, this is a great spot to give a shout out to Peter and thank him for donating a vinyl copy of the Enz performance from the Nambassa festival in 1979.
We are working now on putting together the annual frenz.com auction, and this record will be one of the items up for bidding! |

---------------------------------------------- Yo Jaffaman..The whole Enzo production was fantastic...will it be available at some point for purchase? As far as a Nambassa video release is concerned this too is on the cards providing I can negotiate the copyright issues. As you may know there were two cuts made from Nambassa 1979 with the 50 min version containing True Colours. The 100 min version has not only True Colours but also live performances of I see Red and Bold as Brass. (same as Namb. double Album). Both 16 mm films etc were stored in a vault with Colour Film in Sydney. When Colour Fim were taken over by Atlab some years ago they lodged the 50 min version with the NZ film archives and the 100 min simply vanished. While I've searched the length and breadth of NZ amd Oz...nothing. The films Director did have a showprint copy of the 100 min version, however this too was stolen from SBS Australian Television some years ago. All this is presently in the hands of the NZ police and interpol, should the original stock ever turn up. Nambassa 50 mins in already transfered to digital medium, however, weve had some positive leads on the 100 min version of recent weeks. To cut to the chase, all the Split Enz material will eventually be made available if not on DVD with the rest of the Nambassa events, defenitley as free downloads on the Nambassa web site. Hi to: DebAsWas ;-),Charlie, Kylie, Kiers, Finngirl and Texas Rose, |

Hi Gav...nice to see you again, it's got to be cold down your way mate. Have you seen the T-Colours footage? I am only presuming that the song on the 50 min film version is called 'True Colours' like the album which followed, given the songs words, "All my friends show their true colours etc etc and "you and me we can do whatever we please." This particular song is a Nambassa rendition and the band goes right off in a visual spectacle, as does the crowds response. The 3rd track on the 100 min film is Frenzy. |

Hey Peter! Nice to see you too!
There's a brief snippet of 'True Colours (Let's Rock)' (to use the oft-quoted full title) in the Enz Spellbound doco, plus Jaffaman featured the non-overdubbed version in his Enzology radio series. The subsequent True Colours album was named after the song, but the song doesn't actually feature on the album. 'True Colours' is a very early Enz tune, dating from about 1973, and was a favourite number in the Enz live show up until sometime in 1979. The Nambassa rendition of the song is by far my favourite. So much raunchier, funkier and harder rocking than earlier performances. It really kicks ass! By the way, are you able to post the full Enz Nambassa setlist? Coincidently I found this while looking on the Wikipedia article for the Nambassa festival in NZ (mentioned in a recent thread here): "Ultimately the Nambassa Trust completely finance the bands return home. We paid their airfares, gave them spending monies and organised two weeks accommodation and a rehearsal venue with equiptment in Waihi, where the new band could rehearse for the gig. Split Enz actually performed free at Nambassa 1979, forgoing their appearance fee so that we could get them home and prepared for their future musical assult on Australasia." |

Jaffaman, can one purchase the whole enzology series from anywhere? |

Sadly, no. We've been wanting to make it available but haven't been able to due to copyright.

i spose this is the right place to ask my question, i have a recording of I See Red from the nambassa festival that has synth in it, but the version on Enzology dosen't have the synthesizer in it, can anyone tell me the difference? it's definetley the same performance

As was apparently the custom for a lot of live recordings back in the day, overdubs were added to the audio tapes of the Nambassa performances before they were released. For example, in the Spellbound doco, a clip is shown of 'True Colours' and its audio is overdubbed, sounding more gutsy and with more bottom end (and synths?); however, in Enzology, Jaffaman featured the song as it was performed that night - with no overdubs, it sounds noticeably different.
So, anyhoo, sounds like the same thing's happened with what you have, Foxy. Gav Neil Young Big Day Out, Auckland 16 January 2009 |

The fuses to all of Eddie's borrowed keyboards blew during the opening song, so he performed (mostly) on the piano all night. Other keyboards were overdubbed later for the album and film soundtracks. I used a pre-overdub rough mix tape for Enzology.

Thats pretty much it. I gave the tapes to Nathan Brenner and minor overdubbs were done in Sydney, and tape promptly returned. Obviously the band was looking at relaunching its career post Nambassa, thus much in its interests to ensure that the live recordings were of reasonable standard. They were duly impressed and overdubs minimal. |
