yes all helps.
I think Warner-Mushroom only had the 80's lp image (remember they only bought Mushroom a few years back). I did lend them my original Aussie Mental Notes but they probably had the centre scan ready to go so went with what they had (Eighties one).

Well 1592 to Gold- slow and steady.

Current batch with Crombie, Wilkinson and judd signatures off to NZ- think Mike Chunn is signing them next. So if you are waiting on batch #3 that's where we are up to. It takes awhile but with 7 band members and several countries you'd understand why.

and yes the club is still taking orders for batch #4- I'd love to wipe out the 592 with the next batch, so if anyone in the club is after a fully signed mental Notes just email me (peter@frenz.com) and i can send you details.

Once more thanks to all 7 bands members for signing these and the Frenz for supporting this golden venture!!!

I heard from Mike (Chunn ) today and he has just autographed the latest batch and they are on their way to Paul Crowther to sign.... so not too far away from another lot going out to those who have been patiently waiting.

Crowth mailed the latest batch of Mental Notes covers from NZ and they have all been mailed (last one went out an hour ago).

We still have 6 people who will receive their copies form the next batch (and you have all been notified via an email).

We send them out in the order that the MN sales sheets come in. There are usually some cross over orders between the last of one batch and the first of the next. I tend to over order but because of the time period to get these signed extra 'last minute' orders arrive.

So thanks for being patient, we ARe still accepting orders on this to get it to Gold status here in Australia, but because it is 7 signatures please allow for that.

Thanks
Gryph

Along with the LUTON (2cd) our latest batch of MENTAL NOTES. We start getting this batch signed in a few days time- Noel Crombie will be first.

I'll take them to NZ with me in October for the Chunn-Crowther etc autographs.

It should but fairly sure it doesn't ):

I'm taking the current batch of covers to NZ to get the bulk of those signatures out of the way so this current batch getting close to being fully signed.

Update on the latest batch of Mental Notes.

I caught up with Eddie in the Melbourne recording studio a few days ago and he dutifully signed the covers.

These are now on their way to NZ for Mike and Crowth. So they are making their rounds.

Thanks for being patient, it's complicated getting these gone. All this effort for a Gold record for the band members- I hope they are stoked when it happens.

Emlyn Crowther has just signed these today in NZ and will be mailing them back to me in Oz tomorrow. So another batch will be going out... very soon.

The future is unclear around future copies at the time of writing, I'm not sure if Phil is or even wants to sign anymore. I only have about 8 covers remaining with his signature- so for the moment I'm not sure what the situation is. (The ones I have will cover the current orders).

I'll give it sometime, end of the day it's Phil's decision. The other guys are fine to keep signing till this goes Gold.

I'll keep you posted if Phils signature is on the future copies-hopefully.

Latest batch have been mailed- just remember there is currently a mail strike happening in Australia (4 million parcels and letters currently being held) so this might slow down delivery a bit....sorry, frustrating for us too

Do you think if Phil Judd doesn't sign them, it will take longer for Mental Notes to go gold?

Meaning fans won't want them because the elusive Mr. Judd's signature is not on them.

Cos I know his autograph is extremely hard to get on a Split Enz release, if at all.

I only have it on his Mr Phudd CD I got at Red Eye Records in Sydney.

Well I always though having all signatures on the Mental Notes cd was preferred- thankfully I had a handful still with it on from previous batch that just needed one of the other guys in NZ... so we were covered.

I had about half a dozen emails from fans who said they didn't care either way if PJ's signature was on it but I think it's good to have them all.

Yes not just Phil but really any of the 7 missing would (I guess) means it would take longer to achieve gold.

The main point of this was to get a Gold record for the guys who never received one... and I know Judd wanted it to go Gold to give the award to Pete. I honestly have no idea where his head is around all this.

Oh Phil signed most of the last 2 solo releases so solo wise it's easy, many Frenz have cornered him over the years to get Enz releases signed it's not that hard to get and I think he happily signed some via post. BUT from my point of view it's nice to have them all on something like this.

We have maybe 4 or 5 left with the signature and that's it via the club. After they go I'll have to make some sort of decision I guess. Apart from the award it's probably in Phil's own best interest to keep signing them- simply because it's a sale. Having Mental Notes via the club meant the sales figures for it went from about 15 to sometimes several hundred each quarter.

It doesn't really sell via the stores to the general public , which is sad.

Its such a great album.

I reckon Eddie should mix both Mental Notes and Second Thoughts into one big album. Although MN is all good, I personally think, for example, "Walking Down A Road" is far more superior from ST.

And with "Titus". The first bit with the mandolin is awesome from MN, but the second part when the synths come in on the ST version is way better.

Just like the version of "Time For A Change" is way better from MN but the second part from ST is far more superior. Oh, and it has those cool backing vocals on the ST version where Tim sings "Im beginning to wonder....."

Get my drift?

I have a home made "remix" I got through a friend of a friend of a friend etc, who was/is a friend of Phil Judd himself. I'm not sure if Phil had anything to do with it. I doubt it. Regardless the guy who did it was a mate of Phil's. It's called the "Ultimate Mental Notes". Ha! Sounds great though. Bit dodgy in bits. So it's obvious the guys done it from vinyl or CD.

I agree - I've always preferred the ST version of that song.

A fused hybrid of the best of both albums would be interesting!

I guess it would also come down to the reality/costs of such a project. If Mental Notes itself only ticks over about 15 units per quarter and it's taken 35 years to sell 35,000 copies (and probably 7-10,000 of those went through the club over the last 30 years with major pushing)...... I don't think Warner-Mushroom would reissue a special release...just on the costs alone.

They are a business after all and they probably wouldn't even go close to breaking even.... much as I hate to admit that. Sorry to sound negative, there has to be a realistic side as well ):

what about a fan club only release? It'd be a great thing.

I listened to the "remix" that guy did this morning. Hearing Split Enz as an 8 piece on songs like "titus" and "walking down a road" is pretty rad.
