Loungeroom Lizard |
I'm new here and I'm bursting with questions about Split Enz. I've always liked them, and I'm dying to know the origin of one of their songs.

The song I'm curious about is Charley. Who did he write it for? Is it a true story ? Will this be explained in the Split Enz bio, that I can't find? lol!
Please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. |

Apparently, the song 'Charlie', written around 1977 by Tim, was inspired by the (then) recent break-up of his close friendship/partnership with Phil Judd. This was a recurring theme in much of Tim's late-1970s songs, and even apparently crops up again as the underlying inspiration for 'I Hope I Never'. 'Charlie' is based around Tim's actual feelings and emotions over the break-up of his long time friendship with Phil.
