I was just wondering what everyone thinks of Eddie. What are you favourite Eddie bits in Split Enz songs? Also just like to point out that Eddie helped with ENSZO, he was the one who arranged all of the Enz songs for symphony orchestra. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think he's pretty awesome.

Yes, I'd agree that he is pretty awesome! His piano skills are amazing, and he's got a great overall sense of music in general and seems to always have his talented hands in a project here and there.

There are so many favorite Eddie bits...been listening to Luton and loving the piano in Carried Away lately.

Mustn't forget the wicked sense of humor and the impressive frisbee abilities, either!

nor 6 Months without Pioneer. His playing is just breathtaking, and particularly shines live. Sometimes I can take it for granted but then I'll listen to, say, One out of the Bag, and be blown away anew.

His ear for arranging and mixing is quite something too, and I've heard the depth he's added to Brian Barker's forthcoming album (editorially), which he also plays on. (More on that closer to time.)

As for the man, I have to agree with Hyacinth - his sense of humour is second to none. I still smirk at some of the chats I've had with him - actually most likely all of them - cos we seem to feed off each other quite well.

Definitely an all 'round cool dude.

What about Double Happy and Abu Dhabi? And ENSZO? I agree with you guys though, Pioneer and Poor Boy are really awesome Eddie songs.

Eddie is my favourite member of the Enz. I think that speaks for itself! I love all his playing, it is so mesmerising. I love hearing little bits of his in songs that you notice after several listens, and I agree with everything above, all those songs just don't work without Eddie!

Don't know much about the man, BUT think his piano playing is excellent, don't know how much he wrote of the piano parts.

Based on STRAIGHT OLD LINE - very fine intro, just a delight. Want to hear it over and over. Wish the end was as strong as the start.... Might visit YouTube..

I was listening to the Enz in the car back from the beach yesterday, and really noticing Eddie's piano work - I Hope I Never, Pioneer and Strait Old Line particularly making the journey home pleasurable.

Eddie Rayner only plays the very final piano solo on Strait Ole Line. The rest is Tim Finn.

Too many standouts to mention.

My fav bit of Eddie's is still from the Enz Reunion tour in Melb, for Titus, it was just bloody magical. Shows his playfulness and talent, think it was mentioned, Neil had only practised it on the mandolin before the gig. So Ed was off the cuff. Absolutely brilliant.

I love Ed! The Enz would've been much worse off without his expertise (both playing and arranging), not to mention his sense of humour.

Check out 'The Instrumental' for amazing piano work. Like Joe said though, there are too many stand-outs to mention.

All of this performance is lovely, but about 3:18 to 3:35 makes me weak in the knees...

A couple of Eddie solos that do really stand out to me are Bullet Brain and Cactus Head and Take A Walk, though there are many many others. All his Enz work impresses me.

Yes, Eddie Rayner is a musician extraudinaire, especially when you consider that he is self-taught. I got to meet him in NZ and he does seem like a lovely guy.
I can't go past the piano work in "I Hope I Never"...instricate, delicate, lovely.

Eddie...Eddie's kind of an odd wonder. He plays piano in all sorts of ways and styles I used to kind of slag off, yet the way HE plays, I loved pretty much all of what he did. Loved it right off. Some kind of genius, there.

I think he may have been kind of a "gateway drug" for me, to appreciate a lot of beautiful work by him and others that I can now get into, but that's done in musical styles that as a kid, I'd have completely disparaged.

Love his stuff - he also did some great early CH live stuff.

Does anybody know whether or not Eddie reads music? I'm curious is all. I seem to vaguely recall him using sheet music, when Tim called him up to play keys on "I Hope I Never" in Auckland. I clearly remember Tim telling him, "Original key" but that could have meant no transposing the keyboard.
