Just curious as to what version of Stranger Than Fiction and Time for a Change everyone enjoys the most: The Mental Notes or Second Thoughts version. Personally, I like the Second Thoughts version better, partly because of its cleaned up sound, but also because of the added clarinet??? (played by Gillies, I imagine) at the beginning of STF and Judd's great guitar work.

Yeah, I prefer the Second Thoughts version too, that whole album was better produced than Mental Notes as far as I'm concerned.

I like the MN one better because it _wasn't_ cleaned up. I think cleaning up STF and Time For A Change is like cleaning up "Radio Free Europe" or "Subterranean Homesick Blues" etc... better dirtier. I also think the clarinet and sax clutter up the ST ones sonically, although I do like Phil's solo on the ST "Time For A Change" better.
Of course, I understand why people prefer the other ones, though. Paul. |
