Singing to the birds

Just like the mystic says, be careful of what you say
Talking to himself he needs no one to help him on his way (to you)

E13 [solo synth riff, A C E G B E D E D B G]

I now have a much great appreciation for the Mental Notes arrangement of this song, Wally rocks! Before, I always preferred the Second Thoughts version, but this is so much better, more mellotron and some fantastic sound effects (sounds like a clock being wound at one point, and the kids playing is very effective). So Gav, I only have to like the 7" of Late Last Night and then you've converted me to all the alternative versions Smiler

Whoo! Go Camus! I've been waiting for this one for yonks! Excuse me while I give it a shot on acoustic guitar!

Man, that's a lot exclaimation marks. (Yes, I'm pretty damn excited)

I've changed my mind on a couple of chords in this, the opening chord isn't Em add9 but Esus2. I agonised over what to call the synth riff, I decided on E13 as an Esus2 chord is played on the piano under it, and the bass piano notes are all E, but you could call the chord Am11 amongst many other things.

Anyone else aside from Zombos and Mr Wilson interested in these?

I'm going to be a total lamo, and say that I kind of think that the Cmaj7 in the intro sounds more just like a simple C to me.

The guitar riff during the intro sounds spot on, and is a blast to play. From what I could play of the song (I can't play some of the more obscure chords off the top of my head, so I'll have to look into those), it seems pretty damn accurate. Good work!

Any suggestion on how to play those synth riffs on guitar? I haven't thought about it too hard, but it could be a bit of pain in the butt to arrange it to guitar.

Quick question... are any of the guitars in this song in alternate tunings? Actually, besides, Spellbound, what songs do have alternately tuned guitars?

Mmm, more fantastic work Cam... One of my favourite songs on MN, I was about to criticize... Ha! Me criticize you Wink , on not putting in the piano riff alterations that come in before "It's the story of my life!" I check again, and of course... they're there Wink

I've oftened wondered that too Zombos, on the Spellbound DVD, when it shows them playing "No Bother To Me" (from Beginning of the Enz) Phil is playing in regular tuning with a capo on the 2nd fret, and Wally is playing in an open tuning (I assume E) and is using a slide... So I assume again that most of the acoustics (except in Spellbound) are regular, and electrics may be open... Again, this is all just guess work Smiler

Even if it is just Zombos and I, we are fully appreciative of the work you're doing Joe...

Thanks Smiler

Well Late Last Night is in an opening tuning, the acoustic anyway. I'm starting to think the song Mental Notes is in an opening tuning. One chord is proving to be a bit of a pain ( the one under 'I must must must find a mental note')

I have to respectfully disagree Zombos, it is a Cmaj7. To me the B in the chord sticks out a mile.

Yeah, I'll agree now Camus. Guitar must have been out of tune or something. But yeah, those open notes in the chord seem pretty obvious when I listen to it now. Or maybe I'm just deluded. No biggie.

Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep transcribing those songs so I don't have to think about doing it myself (and getting them all wrong!)

By the way, love the transcription to Walking Down a Road... that's a great song to play... get to go all over the fretboard and play some really odd chords. (By my standards)

Next song I'm hanging out for is Sugar and Spice! Love that chunky muting, and those neat riffs!
