I just recently started listening to Split Enz and am curious what other people say is a few of their favourite songs. I've only just skimmed the surface of their catalogue but I can't seem to get Poor Boy, Bold As Brass and My Mistake out of my head.

I'm partial to the post Phil Judd Enz, so my favourites would include Devil You Know, Stuff n Nonsense, Charlie, I Hope I Never (You know...all the sappy ones LOL) Whats The Matter with You, Iris, History, Message to My Girl, Straight Ol Line....sigh...Poor Boy--thrilled that the Finn Brothers thought to include that on many set lists this past summer...recently, have been enjoying Years Go By and Sweet Dreams as well.

I just finished watching their version of Charlie on the Split Enz DVD. I'd never heard the song before and WOW! What a performance! Let's just say it was a very, very entertaining five minutes. I now have a new favourite Enz song/Tim song.

I am so happy to have stumbled into the world of Frenz. I love music but it had all become so blah to me over the last few years. For a 30 year old mom of 2 it's so great to feel like dancing around the house again listening to Bold as Brass or Dirty Creature. My son(2.5) is even getting into it. I never thought I'd be going back 25 years to find something I like. And to think this all started because of The Wiggles Big Grin

Let's just say that I'm somewhat older than you Leanne and I was introduced to the Enz when their albums first came out ..... I used to hear the odd song over the radio and certainly at the pub and when my interest in all things Finn was renewed, I was actually surprised to find that I already owned 3 Enz records (from the day)

I'm also of the firm opinion that it doesn't matter 'how far back' you have to go...good music is worth it Wink

Leanne, I'm also a 30 year old mum of 2 and although I've been Enz fan most of my life, I drifted away for a while (Don't know WHAT I was thinking!!!!!)and it was The Wiggles that brought me back. I was watching Wiggly World with my son and seeing Tim singing "Leaky Boat" ,as my son called it at the time, reminded me just how much I loved Split Enz! We dance around to History, Shark Attack, Leaky Boat and sooooo many more. I love that my kids love Split Enz. Makes me smile everyday Big Grin

Bullet Brain and Cactus head, I just really like it, I like the feel of the song, it has a fantastic piano solo in it (contrary to popular belief it isn't that hard to play) and a fantastic lead synth solo. It's one of the few songs that I really like from Conflicting Emotions, that's why i chose it. As good as most of the other songs are, that one in particular gives me the tingles, though I am fully aware it doesn't have a very good rep amongst Finn fans

Penny,

This is exactly why I come here. It's nice to know that there are other people out there like me. My husband thinks I'm strange for liking the Finns so much (but then again he still thinks he's 18, listening to rap music Confused ) and my friends won't even give it a chance. It's their loss though.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Leanne,

My husband (who also thinks he's 18 LOL!)is still listening to KISS. YUK!He teases me about my love of all things Finn, but in a good natured way. And my friends are like yours. They know the songs when they hear them on the radio (doesn't happen often) but don't know who sings them. I told a friend that I was excited about going to the Finn Bros concet in November and she said "Who?". I could have screamed!!!
Like you said, it's ther loss.

When it comes to fav split enz songs i don't think you can go past a good neil finn love song like 'Message to my girl'

But i'm also a fan of the more obscure Tim tracks like 'Haul Away' or 'Stuff and Nonsense'

But the song that really drew me into the world of Split Enz was 'My Mistake'

I also love *'Dirty Creature'
*'Take a Walk'
*'I Walk Away'
*'Straight old line'...

I could go on forever
