Funny you should mention that... today I was bored after school and decided to go downtown to my old haunt, Encore Records. I used to spend hours in there looking for records of the bands I love, from Duran Duran to Depeche Mode to Journey!!! (haha) Lord knows why I hadn't gone back in so long! But anyway. So went in, started looking around in all the stacks. Half hour later, one of the girls who works there (I actually think she is the wife of the owner???) was walkignn by and I asked if she would know of anything having to do with Crowded House or Split Enz (note: I forgot that I had purchased the self-titled CH a looong time ago). She told me where to look, and said she would have a gander in the basement for me. Didn't even know that they had a basement! So off she went, and came back with the red/green True Colours laser etched record!!! I was soooooooooo happy! She mentioned there was probably more as well, and went back downstairs to keep hunting. Meanwhile in my ecstatic frame of mind, I found Time and Tide hiding behind a bunch of Hall and Oates (mind you, the records aren't categorized in any way, you just have to get down and dirty and look!)! Made me extremely happy as well, looks to be in pretty good condition. And the pictures-the boys look so young! Anywho, she returned with the purple/yellow TC laser etched as well! HUGE smile from me as I said I would take that too. I keep looking, she vanished. Reappears yet again with an Audiophile release of the purple/yellow TC, which is apparently really reare b/c of its awesome sound quality and that it was only produced for people who had great top-of-the-line equipment. Took that too! THEN she was randomly looking around in piles and said, "Hey, how about Tim Finn?" I look over and she has a mint copy of Escapade. I mean, COME ON! I freaked out at all these "new" records I was getting, and added that to the pile. And still, she went on! She asked if I had the Finn Bros. live album, I said no, obviously, and she said they had a copy of it somewhere on CD. Looked a bit, then said she would continue her search for all things Frenz for me on Friday and took down my name and number. How awesome was she? AMAZINGLY AWESOME. And if that wasn't enough, me and one of the other guys working there has a discussion about how hard it is to find anything SE or Finn Bros. here. He said that if I ever came across a copy of their first album to snatch it up as he used to work at a used CD store and had a hold on it for four years, but it never turned up. Geez!!! So in total, the laser etched TCs and Escapade were $4 each, T&T was $1, and the Audiophile TC was $10. Grand total of $23+taxes. Wow, you lucky bugger! Especially with the Audiophile TC. A copy of that came up on eBay a while back but it went for an awful lot more than that. Should you (or they) ever happen to stumble across another copy, I'd be very indebted (and might actually have some "sparea" of interest to you that I'm going to put up on eBay one year) ...
******* Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind I like to sit with you and talk for hours |

Wow! Ashley, you hit the jackpot! Good for you!
I would purchase a bottle of bubbly for the owner's wife! ********************************************** Years go by, wonder what you did Yet in a minute you can change your life All depends on your state of mind One thing to be sure of is we live and die - N. Finn |

Yea, Ashley--you sure did hit the jackpot!
I told you it was going to be inexpensive--and a lot of fun. You may also--next time you're out and about in used record land--ask if they have any stacks of 45s with picture sleeves...you may stumble over a treasure trove of Split Enz/Crowded House singles ...that's going to be slightly more challenging...but it's fun to look. i was at a big record convention this past weekend...and in the past, i've picked up some nice quality true colours and a great "Split Enz" "I Don't Wanna Dance" --vinyl record that's completley see thru with footprints etched into the design...and it was only $15.00! Sweet! This convention...i browsed around thru everyone's old Rolling Stone and Hit Parader Mags looking for any old articles or covers, but no luck. I also picked up Split Enz Live in Hamilton Ontario video at one of these places, so...I encourage you to keep looking...there are still treasure out there. |

Probably the least I can do! Running over there today to see if she's found anything else
Whoa that sounds really neat!!! I'll be sure to ask them about that today. Wonder what I'll find... lucky you and your Hamilton video! Where did they play? Wasn't Copps Coliseum was it?
No prob, I'll be sure to keep you guys posted Precious, precious thing, you are the song that makes me sing... Neil: "Ashley Dean, where is she? Thank you Ashley for your kind words." |

Yea--if you ever come across Woodface or Together Alone in vinyl grab it because I don't think they released it in vinyl in North America..so if you find those, they'd be imports.
modified to add: I don't know if the Hamilton Show was at that arena because I don't think that's indicated in the credits. (I could be wrong...I've just never noticed) This was a commercial release back in the day..Ashley--you may be able to find it |

Thanks Martine, I'll keep an eye out for that!!!
Went back today, found the yellow/black/blue TC, BUT IT HAD NO RECORD IN IT Went to another record store down the street, which is apparently Ontario's #1 records store-people come from all over Ontario to shop there, so I felt good about it. They had Woodface and ToLM on cassette, bought them both, and a copy of Waitata (black/grey/pink) in excellent condition,as well as another ToLM on vinyl and CH self-titled in great condition (which I already have but I'm going to check the condition). They also took down my name and number. At this rate, if anyone wants vinyl, ask me and I'll probably get it here some way or another haha!! Just one more record shop to go here that I know of... OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
That is sooo awesome. How long did it take you to collect all those! And where did you find them all? I was wrong about the Audiophile release as well-I have the red/green and ultraviolet/yellow (the one middle left) laser etched, and th Audiophile is the one in the top left corner-hot purple/yellow I think. Wow that is great. I would frame them all together and put them in my room. Precious, precious thing, you are the song that makes me sing... Neil: "Ashley Dean, where is she? I have the regular Woodface which I think cost about $23 Australian, have seen a picture disc of it which was $80 US, the two copies of TA I have seen, one was $52 US the other about 80 pounds. I have a picture disc of TOLM which I got super cheap and am now seeing copies for 88 pound

$23 AU is about the same in Canadian dollars (looks like we're doing something right
Nice myspace btw, I used to have one but had a negative experience with it and deleted it. I have a music one set up but have no music to add on it yet. Must finish recording and jump in-looks like most of the forum is on your top friends list!!! Precious, precious thing, you are the song that makes me sing... Neil: "Ashley Dean, where is she? I know she has them all, beat me to some of them.
Only ... are they all actually laser etched FG? I've lost track now, just didn't think it came in as many clours as the non-etched one. ******* Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind I like to sit with you and talk for hours |
