Pitied Rhino |
I recently managed to get hold of a copy of Mental Notes, which is a hard job in the UK (thank God for eBay!). Anyway, the cover art is slightly odd. Any explanations for what it's about? And which one is Tim, none of them seem to look like him - or was he different looking in the early 70s?
Any thoughts...? |

Tim is the one in the lower right hand corner making the goofy face.
If you have the Mushroom cd you have the 1st painting that Phil did for the album. Later on, Phil used the same picture and painted himself bald and replaced Wally Wilkinson (above Tim) with Robert Gilles to reflect a line up change. The newer cover was used for the Chrysalis version of Mental Notes. |

The painting won the 1975 Australian Music Industry award for "Best Album Cover". The original was hanging in the Museum of New Zealand for a while, but it had been removed from display the last time I visited.
See Mike Chunn's Stranger Than Fiction, pp. 84-85 for the story behind the painting. |
