You'll be right treegrrl. There's nothing better than a dress rehearsal to make you forget all about your jetlag and lack of sleep. Smiler

I'd say your major problem is going to be the unexpected weight of your suitcase Wink

I'm wondering whether I should make a few notes of the highlights of each show to help me remember what happens at which performance. Wish my shorthand wasn't so rusty, I could stand there furiously taking notes. Roll Eyes Razzer

That wouldn't look daggy. Big Grin I could hold my hemhorroid ring in one hand and my shorthand notebook in the other. Cool Add that to me singing along and you've got a one-woman freak show. Big Grin

When I go to a few shows I start to forget what happened when, so notes would help.

Dussa matta. I'm sure I'll remember enough!!

Well I am in too! Dress rehearsal as well as soundcheck. With 2nd row seats for the ChCh show, and 3rd row for Wellington. It's going to be a FRENZY. Smiler

I'm overnighting it in Sydney as I type this, flying out to Wellington early tomorrow morning with my son. We're only going to see one Enz show in Auckland, but this is really gonna rock.

Hope to catch up with you at the show or meet new Frenz.

Cheers

Oh...my....god

Am I the first one to post about the dress rehearsal??

Oh...my...god

Everyone must still be in shock (lol).

Have you ever been at a concert where there are only 24 (TWENTY-FOUR!!!!!) fans in the audience? In an arena that holds thousands? Sitting in a tiny cluster of three rows of seats on the floor, with nothing else around you but roadies and sound crew at work? Talk about feeling conspicuous.

I sat front and centre of course. Wink

Oh...my...god

Peter Green brought us in and gave us strict orders to not record the event, or we would be kicked out. It would be hard to take a photo without anyone noticing, anyway. Wink

It was just like the "real" shows, complete with full lighting effects, costumes (which I'm not supposed to talk about...sworn to secrecy Big Grin ), and the band coming out covered in a golden silky sheet...like a unicellular organism rising from the primeval ocean. Then they ran through the songs for about..an hour and a half, maybe a bit longer. No real theatrics nor a lot of banter, as the focus was on getting the music down pat.

The set list, which is mostly in order:

Shark Attack
Poor Boy
One Step Ahead
Give it a Whirl
Nobody Takes Me Seriously
Double Happy
I Hope I Never
Message to My Girl (Neil on guitar, not piano, for this one, divine!!!!)
Dirty Creature
Years Go On (kick ass!!!!)
Stuff and Nonsense
The Devil You Know
Matinee Idol 129
Musical interlude with Eddie on keyboards and Noel on spoons (kick ass!)
Strait ol' Line
Pioneer/Six Months
I Got You
What's the Matter with You
I See Red
My Mistake
(fake encore)
Take a Walk
Charlie
Bold as Brass
History Never Repeats

The song order gets a bit fuzzy after Six Months because I stopped writing and started dancing at that point. Big Grin

Neil came off the stage and wandered at front beside us while Tim sang I Hope I Never, then he went up the stairs to the left...presumably checking out at how things looked from our perspective. Noel came down at some point too. There was quite a bit of wandering when someone wasn't needed for a particular song.

We were sitting about 15 meters or so from the stage. It looked about the same distance as one of the Coarse Woody Debris transects I do every year for my field work (lol).

Neil gave a nod to "those who had come a long way" for the shows. Not sure how good his eyesight is but I'm sure he picked me out of the front row (hee hee hee heeeeee! ;D).

Hmmmm, what else....I was the only North American rep at the rehearsal. Very few Kiwis (Semi-detached - very nice fella), heaps of Aussies. I hung out with Finngirl, Pez, Rebecca and Kay (mailing list peeps), Texas Rose and her niece, Mummakook, a few others whose names already elude me (apologies...I'm still jetlagged since I only arrived here in Christchurch yesterday at 1 am...after travelling 35+ hours Eeker).

Oh yeah, some guy from TV videotaped a bit of the rehearsal at the beginning, including filming us enthusiastic hordes. I know that he got my singing, gleeful mug on the camera for posterity. Razzer Peter is apparently going to let us know when and where this footage will appear.

That was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime event for me and well worth the thousands of dollars I am spending on this trip. The first time I ever saw Split Enz and it was at a full dress rehearsal. Cool

Roll on soundcheck and the "real" show tonight. Big Grin

Glad you had fun... a few hiccups which is kind of what dress rehearsals are for... thank you guys for being so patient with the late start....

The guy filming was from TV ONE.....I'm heading off with a few of the guys for a 20 minute interview for TV ONE in a few minutes... will try and find out exactly what show it's for.

It will be show before the Auckland shows...

Train spotter moment from dress rehearsal... Noels guitar for his solo was one of the white shaped guitars from the Schnell Fenster days...

I'd still be in shock too Treegirl. 24/25 fans !! that stunned me! Thought 150 or so in Brisbane, seemed minimal in the huge venue.

Last time they'd practised 27 songs.
Jamboree's been bumped in that setlist.
Probably get Hermit if you yell loud enough.
Bet ya, Ed's been going over every song!
Always up for a challenge. Smiler

Ready for ya Gav. Big Grin

Can't think of too much treegirl missed and I must hurry, but indeed it was a wonderful experience. I'm most impressed that she seemed to get the songlist right too despite her avid dancing. The only correction I can think of is that I believe the first "encore" went Take a Walk, Charlie then My Mistake.

Oh yeah yeah yeah you’ve got a strong mind

treegrrl,

w o w

I can't help but think the dress rehearsal was even more of a thrill than the actual concert will be. But, of course, the concert will also be memorable stuff of dreams. Thank you sooo much for posting.
