Now did I see something somewhere about Tim saying that he wanted to reform the original Mental Notes line-up and play gigs ?
If this is true - then it can only be in England. Coz we got all the TV broadcasting etc for Europe so it makes sense and also happens to be where I am ha ha haaa.
So is there gonna be a Mental Notes reform ??? Is that what he wants to do ???
Well, it would be great if that line-up does plan on reforming (they should play the 'Mental Notes' album start to finish and then record it for release on video-DVD/CD), but good luck getting Phil's involvement.

Anyone know what the actual state of affairs is like between Tim and Phil these days? Even if the Mental Notes thing never happened, those tracks that popped out of nowhere for the Big Steal soundtrack have always made me want more
Yes, I believe Tim mentioned his last great Enz adventure would be to reform the Mental Notes line up to do the whole of Mental notes live - though I thnik they would need to add a couple other songs from that period. But, if this was to happen it would be amazing!!! Bring it on - maybe for the 30th anniversary of Mental Notes release in 2005????? Of course I would want it much sooner
This sounds too good to be true - when/where did you hear this?
I'm sure that all but Phil would jump at it - even if this were the case, Neil would be an acceptable replacement. The pity would be not to hear Under the Wheel, Spellbound etc with the full Judd treatment.
Recent interviews in Australian media has Tim saying he wouldnt want to embark on a "Heritage tour" of Split Enz. Also running down PJ on stage. All seems a bit contradictory.
Hey GR, did you seriously hear Tim running Phil down? I don't believe that at all. I saw Tim live late last year and he said that he and Phil used to be "as close as it was possible for two guys to be without being y'know". Tim also said that he hasn't talked to Phil in about 10 years and wherever Phil is, Tim still loves him (as a friend). That said, however, the chances of Tim and Phil ever being reunited seem very remote, and even slimmer for Phil playing with the Enz again. Still, we can always keep *fingers crossed*...I sure as hell know I'd love to see the 'Mental Notes' line-up reunited.

I heard about the PJ raves on this forum - see Tim Finn live 21/4/02 - it was a review from the Launceston gig last week. It seems that he always mentions PJ in some form or another. Clearly the pain of the break up has not left him (or PJ) for that matter.
Having just reread those posts I think the comments ring true - especially based on our exchanges with PJ in the forum last year.
Lozza - where did they say the interview was from? Whether it was fabricated or not - I would imagine that he would like to have them reform.
Most previous attempts seemed to have failed. The most recent being the one before the Anniversary tour. PJ's account of this made it seem pretty sour.
There was also another time when they were going to have every line up play - this ended up with only a few ex-enzers turning up and playing a couple of songs (its in Chunns book).
Not so hopeless. Thanks for posting that interview... and yes Tim did say he wanted a reunion of the original enz to play Mental Notes live.
Mental Notes was voted as the best loved album in NZ recently. No doubt any reunion concert would be there. They couldnt do it without lots of rehearsals. Nor could they do it without PJ and TF making up.
What are the chances? What can we do to make it happen?
This looks like a throwaway comment by Tim... just a wee thought ala "Hey, imagine being able to do that." Possibly similar to "I'd like to eat an elephant whilst remaining a vegetarian."
Just the sort of fried gold a journalist would pick out as the perfect ending to an article to get us all excited. Chances of it actually happening within the next five years are slim, I reckon. I would love to be proved wrong, though.
In the meantime, we've got another sorta-Enz-related reunion to look forward to in May...

Great band. "Will you ever ever ever come back? Like rust in my car..." Geoff wrote some great tunes. I wonder if this will see their back catalogue finally released on CD.
