Split Enz drummer Noel Crombie is making new outfits for the bands ARIA Hall of Fame induction on July 14.

Crombie, 52, was responsible for the classic Enz haircuts, stage, clothes, props and artwork.

Theres no word on Crombies designs for the big night, but sources have confirmed Split Enzs song choice for their live performance.

Singer Neil and Tim Finn got the hard task of picking one tune each. Tim opted for I see red, Neil took Message to my girl.

Split Enz last performed in Australia in February 1990 for the Newcastle earthquake benefit.

The Finns, Crombie, Malcolm Green, Eddie Rayner and Nigel Griggs will reunite for ARIA honours at the Regent Theatre.

Other inductees include Hunters & Collectors, Smoky Dawson and the Easybeats.

The event will screen on VH1 on July 17 and Fox 8 on July 23.

So I guess we can stop all the speculation now. I hope Mal can reinact his sneer and drumming from a lounge chair from the See Red clip.

That would be so cool if they had the lounge chair on stage. Cant wait to see the costumes, bet it would be another ingenious Noel creation.

Is there any chance that this event will be webcast as well? Its just torture reading all the details as they are divulged, knowing that there is no way in heck we'll ever see it in the US (she notes as she begins to weep bitterly, thinking of Noel's threads and seeing Mal in the lounge chair...)

Someone please help me...

Since Hunters & Collectors are being inducted as well, what are the chances of Mark Seymour letting Neil and Tim sing "Throw Your Arms Around Me" with his band ?

I know I am stating the obvious here, but TYAAM so beautifully interconnects H&C and Neil/Tim/CH, especially in the light of the Royal Albert Hall tribute to Paul. Would it be TOO emotional to do it all overall again?

I was pleasantly surprised by the song choices. I had my money on 'I got you', because it was awarded Song of the Year in 1980, and 'Dirty creature' because of its more universal appeal, according to Tim.

I thought I read somewhere, possibly 'Stranger than Fiction', that Mal initially had a bit of trouble with the bass drum in 'I see red', so I had ruled that one out.

Eeek! I'm so excited!!

Yeah, I have the same question as unilooney -- is this going to be televised in NZ at any time? Does anyone know?

Thanks for asking what I've been wondering, Uni.

I've just got back from a short visit to Australia, where I managed to catch a brief snippet of the ceremony on the TV news, including the Enz performing "History Never Repeats"! I understand the other song they played was actually "Poor Boy". I guess the "sources" got it wrong. Smiler

Split Enz at the Arias was briefly televised in NZ on Headliners, TV1 6pm News, TV3 6pm News and Prime News. Bits of both songs were shown, as was Tim's acceptance speech and separate interviews with Tim and Neil.

And what kind of things were Tim and Neil saying Jaffaman? Australian TV was not so extensive and tended to focus on Slim Dusty.

They showed part of History Never Repeats - and the new suits looked interesting but we couldn't get a close look.
