This question has been going around for the past 29 years, time for a poll methinks, especially in the light of Luton, the age-old question is still with us - who exactly sings Livin' It Up - Tim, Nigel or SOMEONE ELSE???

Question:
Who do you think sings Livin' It Up?

Choices:
Tim
Nigel
SOMEONE ELSE!

I started by voting for Nigel. Sounds nothing like Tim to me.

There's no way it's Tim unless they slowed down the vocals. The vocals are much deeper than Tim's voice.

I voted for Nigel, but it could be someone else since I'm not familiar with Nigel's voice.

I don't think it sounds like either one of them, but I cast my vote for Tim anyway. Nigel's singing voice isn't very deep at all. ADZ is a fairly good representation of his singing voice as far as the "lightness" of it.

But then again, people's voices change over time, and Livin' It Up came 6 years before Adz.

You are correct about the fact that voices change over a person's life. Last month I bought this Bob Dylan collection, and it's amazing how his voice has changed so much! A man's voice is finally "mature" on average about when he's 27 or 28, but the pattern is generally the higher the voice the earlier it matures. (Sopranos, Altos, Tenors then Basses.)

I have about 40 years of Nigel's music, as I have some stuff he recorded the month after he turned 17 to the live stuff from last year's tour. He's definitely a tenor with his voice not having changed too drastically through his career. Ask him and he'll tell you he's an instrumentalist first. But even if he wasn't, "Living it Up" would have been recorded shortly before his 29th birthday, and a man's voice doesn't do that many changes from there to 34, the age he would have been during the recording for "ADZ".

So, I'm going with "no" on that one. (But just you wait that it actually is. Such is the nature of those Enz boys. Just when you expect something, they surprise you.)

I'm going for the "someone else" option. It just doesn't sound like either one to me.

I concur with the someone else option. It doesn't sound like either the Tim or Nigel that I know. As aika and I were discussing before, maybe Mal sang it - he's no stranger to Nigel's songwriting!

Even after hearing the remaster, it's still Tim for me. Not a criticism, but Nigel's just way too laidback to get that manic vocally (and Tim's great at doing a mannered vocal when he feels like it!)

If Livin' It Up is sung by Tim, then he was obviously testing the range/limits of his voice and exactly what he could do with his vocal cords.

After putting LIU from Luton & Adz back to back the other night, I felt extremely positive that LIU was sung by Nigel... now I'm not so sure. Confused Might have to listen to the song a little more carefully before voting. Smiler

It's been 4 days, and Tim and Nigel are pretty close with a 6-7 split but the Someone Else category is lagging behind at only 3 points

Oh, Six. Chill out, will you?

The cheer was cute, but there are more people here who can contact Nigel than Jaffa. Besides the fact that at least to my own experience, he doesn't always answer questions when I ask him, even direct questions. So that's why I haven't bothered.

There'd probably be better luck going at this through the Tim angle.

Wow, that is interesting, very atypical singing by nigel though.
