Hi there fellow Enzers. I was just writing up some comments on my discography about the newest addition to the Enz catalogue - The Enz to Enz Boxset, released in time for Xmas & to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Enz. I have purchased one of these as i am a huge collector on all enz related bands and i noticed that this item's potential in terms of sales will be poor due to lack of thought (bonus tracks etc.) considering that all the studio albums were available 2 years ago & the Luton cd is also available separately. So my view is that the Mushroom boxsets from 1993 are clearly the best option apart from the Warners set being remastered.

I know i seem to be babbling on here but my aim is to get other opinions on what the Enz fans would love to have in their collections in terms of a 50th Anniversary Box set (which i am sure will happen...???...maybe !) in Dec 2022. Lets give Warner a few ideas so they get it right next time (they have 15 years !). I am sure Eddie Rayner will be able to dig up some more rare gems.

My thoughts are,
[LIST]
  • 10 studio albums in some other collectable format with live footage / interviews or video clips in dvd format on the end of each album?
  • "The Living Enz" Remastered on CD & DVD (???)
  • Two cds of rarities (demos / live / unreleased tracks).
  • An interview disc with interviews from all Enz members that are still alive to mark the 50th anniversary (cd or dvd).
  • A booklet with heaps of info & pics.
  • All kept in a nice new design collectable box. Maybe a roadcase or anything else you die hard fans can come up with.
  • Maybe a singles boxset with different mixes
  • I would have the rarities cd plus the interview disc as exclusives to the box set issue only.

So, after all that, i think my wallet would be drained to the tune of about $250. Phew !

And maybe a 50th anniversary get together like "Enzfest" !!!

What are your thoughts on these issues ?

I would expect by the time it comes around the music will be downloaded onto your portable music device (being about 1cm2 and attached to your watch) with the remastered clips, concert footage all showing from your personal hologram sun glasses....

Oh, and the 50th Anniversary release will also include the new material released in 2010...

Felt the need to point out the obviouis, but Live in America is not an official release from anyone. It's one of those illegal bootlegs that somehow managed to get on sale. The guys and PG have been looking into it for possible legal action, and that's mentioned in other threads. So that piece certainly wouldn't be included on an official release. If something of the same live performance was included, it would be from a different source and better mixed.

As for the other comment about no reunion concerts from people in their late 60s/early 70s, that leads me to the question (answer if you wish, but it's mostly rhetorical) of "how old is too old?" People in other genres of music (classical, country, jazz, etc) perform at all ages, and in rock we've got Robert Plant in his late 50s still now performing as well as the group of Rolling Stones.

He did say bar Live in America, meaning not including it.

Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson are both in their mid 60s and still going strong.

I understood that, Camus. My point is that he wouldn't have to single that one out and say don't include it because by the very nature of what it is, it's already not included.

He did indeed say that, but I think the point was why mention it at all when it's clearly not any sort of official release.

For anyone familiar with the Aussie music scene, I've yet to witness it personally but appaently Cole Joy is still wowing them on a regular basis. My mother hasn't stopped talking about him (it's cute, like she's discovered the joys of fandoom in her later years) since I got good tix for her and a friend to see him earlier in the year.
