So I've really enjoyed Rock Band, even though I haven't been able to play a song that was a real favorite (Weezer's El Scorcho has been the closest). In any case, I thought it'd be great if Finn and Co could get a song as DLC. I've never had any real hopes for it (unless it was a longshot; something similar to "Guitar Hero's Rock the Eighties"), but then this gave me hope:

http://www.rockband.com/zine/rem_offspring_dlc

No disrespect to Richard Thompson, but flippin hay, there's going to be a RICHARD THOMPSON song as DLC! Crowded House isn't as obscure as he is, right?

So it can't hurt to bug Harmonix, can it? Maybe a couple of hundred votes for the Crowdies might get their interest? Here's what to do. Go here:

http://www.rockband.com/support#

On the right-hand side, in the "Contact Us" box, there's a link to "Request a Song". I suppose if I was more organized, I'd say we should all request the same song (maybe someone can suggest one here), but I think as long as the artist kept coming up, they'd take some notice.

What say you? It'd give the Crowdies a bit more exposure, on top of it all. That can't be a bad thing Smiler

Don't Dream Its Over is probably a good suggestion, since it was #2 in the US Wink

ip2, I was about to ask, "which song would be a good candidate for that?"

In strict terms of colossal dominance (and I don't just mean saturation play decades ago), it's hard to beat the ol' D.D.I.O.

But...it's not really...it don't quite "rock" do it? It's kind of...

Something So Strong would get my vote. It's enough of a pop-rock song to do the game justice, ought to be fun enough and was a big enough (US) hit.

Locked Out would be cool, as would Mean To Me and When You Come Smiler

Locked Out came to mind immediately...just seems like it would be fun to play.

Gotta agree with you on El Scorcho, Lister. One of my favorites as well!

Well it depends on who you ask - Richard Thompson has had a long career, so while he might not have had much in the way of chart hits, he probably has at least the same size audience across maybe a different age spectrum.

The thing is also that Richard Thompson outside of his fan base, is primarily known as a guitar player. So it makes sense that he's on Rock Band.

However, great guitar solo aside, it is rather an obscure idea to have something off "Mirror Blue" on there.

The first time I saw Crowded House, Richard Thompson opened. Much of the crowd was annoyed as they thought it was a double bill (I recall that my 10th grade English teacher was there...not my usual gig going experience). I was in the second row, and after Richard Thompson's set, the people sitting in front of us turned to me and my friend and said, "We don't want to pay the babysitter any more. Want our seats?" Which is how I ended up front and center at my first CH gig and managed to get There Goes God dedicated to me. I ♥ Richard Thompson!

I don't see it happening with Rock Band or Guitar Hero. Of any of their songs that registered in the popular consciousness, Locked Out would be the only thing in the right spirit - but it's hardly recognizable to anyone outside the fans.

It would be great to have a CH song on Rock Band! Cool

It would have to be something with a good guitar line on it, or bass line.

Crowded House are a pleasure that I have known..........and a treasure that I have gained.

Why just the one song? Why not a complete 'album' of CH, SE and FB songs!!!
Pushing s%#t up hill I know, but I would consider buying that one if it came out.

Great idea!
Locked out is a good choice however, seeing as it's maybe not that well known in the US how about another good guitar driven song that ahey wouldn't know either such as Recurring Dream Big Grin

Locked Out might garner some recognition in the US, at least with those familiar with the Reality Bites soundtrack (i.e., those in their late 20s and up who may have seen the film).

Late twenties? Think older...that movie was released 15 years ago, and I doubt it was drawing in the young teenage audience.

I almost never come across an American who knows anything besides Don't Dream it's Over or Something So Strong. In fact, when an acquaintance heard I'd been to three CH gigs last summer, she later got confused and told someone I'd been to see the Bangles three times. Like I was some kind of 80's music groupie! That's what I was thinking too. As it was in the movie, it would've gained some exposure over there Smiler

The soundtrack (or at least a few tracks from it) charted pretty high in the US as I remember, and although teens weren't necessarily the target audience, the soundtrack made me want to see it when I was in high school, and I was old enough to get it when I finally did see it in my late teens/early 20s. Maybe I'm not the most typical example. Still, the soundtrack was pretty popular (although admittedly, Locked Out didn't get as much radio play as Something So Strong, Stay [Lisa Loeb] and My Cherona [The Knack], which also appeared on the soundtrack).

I am in my late twenties and people in my high school definitely knew "Locked Out" only because of its inclusion on the Reality Bites soundtrack.

Well shut my mouth! I don't remember it too well - kind of the same feeling I had as I walked out of the theatre...it was just so totally forgettable. I do remember thinking I didn't find any of the characters particularly believable. I guess it makes sense that it may have had greater appeal to people who weren't being told their generation was summed up by it.

Seemingly the big difference between "Gen X" and the Millennial generation is that the latter feel a part of their generational group, and Gen X think it's a bunch of crap. I guess that makes me solidly of my generation. Wink

Anyway...Locked Out on Rock Band would be great, but it's not gonna happen.

What would be cool is a 'request' mode built into the game, where you could load your own songs onto it and the software would create the level/round on the fly. Then you could play with the entire Crowded House catalog.

As a huge fan of the Rock Band games, I'd LOVE to have some Crowded House included. It would be so much fun! Plus of course it would be great exposure for Crowded House. I think having "Recurring Dream" available as a full album download would be the best way to go.

To those who say it will never happen, I wouldn't be so sure. It's entirely possible but it depends on the will of the game developer, the band's record company and the band themselves.

Nice idea but the reason this can't happen is that the game uses individual instrument tracks as opposed to the final mix. For every song the game developers would need the original, isolated tracks (bass, drums, guitar, vocals). It's entireley possible that the developers have requested some Crowded House and were turned down by the record company for whatever reason. If you're a fan I'd suggest posting in the Rock Band forums as Harmonix does keep track of what people want. There's already a Crowded House thread on the forum here:

http://www.rockband.com/forums...thread.php?p=2847101

After a show, perhaps someone could ask one of the guys about the likelihood of this ever happening...
