Although I quite liked some of their stuff they were getting a bit boring to say the least!

Until Accelerate, of course!

A great return to form...

Actually, I'm pretty sure Accelerate is one of their most boring albums to date. Aside from the opener and "Supernatural" the rest of the album is just mindless noise. It might keep me awake but not because it's interesting. Around the Sun was epically boring too so I've gotta say that I agree with Neil, it's time for them to throw in the towel. I am a HUGE R.E.M. fan but they seem to have run out of things to say.

I'm pretty sure that you're wrong :chuckle:

I have to go with Neil and Painäporo on this one.I seem to remember at the time (correct me if I'm wrong?) when REM won themselves a $60 million dollar contract for the next five albums, wich sounds quite a lucrative deal to say the least.
Were they worth it? I can only speak for myself and say that after AFTP, things whent slowly but surely downhill, apart from the odd little gem here and their, the rest was very mediocre and felt very much like,"take the money and run!"
I wonder if even a brilliant song writer like Neil would ever let himself in on such a deal, knowing that he has to come up with the goods at all costs and not wanting to dissapoint his loyal fans, who would surely know when the wool is being pulled over!

REM's a good example. I was lucky to catch a great documentary on Robyn Hitchcock wherein he formed a band with friends to tour around in a van. One of the friends was REM's Peter Buck, who was quite frank that the REM experience had for many years been just a job, where they play the same songs, just the way people expect, night after night with no room straying from the program, which he described as completely boring.

Unsurprising that a band willing to tour on those terms would become duds in the studio. I'm happy CH is not on that track AT ALL.

FYI: Neil's favorite is coming back to Winnipeg (his favorite's home town) in October.

Tickets on sale tomorrow.

Hey Neil (Finn), I can get you tickets on the floor! Would be a blast....bring the whole band down and do a gig the night before (maybe Young will hit the stage with you!) Big Grin

Just thought I should point out that Nickelback is actually generic Canadian rock Razzer

HAhaah, touche! You know the music is pretty generic for me to make that kind of mistake.

I wonder what Neil Finn thinks of Dave Matthews Band.

I grew quite tired of this band (especially Matthews voice...which does get tiring quite fast, for me)....also, I find their music uninspiring. I know the colleges in the States pushed this band quite high in popularity, but I think they are way overrated. I wonder what Neil thinks?

So for me, Nickelback, Steel Dan, Dave Matthews and a sprinkle of Oasis, is a receipe that could make me get quite queezy....especially trapped on a desert island. That's just my humble opinion....and I think completes my list of bands that I think are quite highly rated but definitely hit a wrong musical chord with me.

Neil hates Dave Matthews Band - with an indignant fury that is almost comical to behold! When he really gets rolling on the topic - aw man, he starts spluttering and stuttering, he'll say things like "Dave Matthews Band is a travesty! They don't deserve their amplifiers, they should be run out of music!!"

EDIT: wait, I just saw at the top of your post, you're wondering about what Neil Finn thinks. Disregard all that, then. I was quoting my cousin Neil.

Dang it, if only I could delete my own posts!

Mr. Sadly.....you almost had me going there.....it sounds exactly what I would think Neil FINN would think. Oh well, next we might hear what Neil Young thinks. That would be quite interesting to say the least!

LOL!

Aw, you really think so? Neil always seems like such a sweetheart to me, I don't know if I've ever really heard him slag off another musician. Oh, they take their little jibes at Bono & Co from time to time but it's clearly in good fun!

EDIT: Okay - I should have read the rest of the thread first! I guess he's ventured his share of critical opinions. I just missed it. Still, he seems respectful enough, and anyone who loves music is surely entitled to critique it!
