Getting Somewhere

Hey all, sorry if this has been covered, not on here much but....

Today I was walking through a book shop and stopped to Look at an audio technicians mag with Neil on it...

I only skimmed through it, it was mostly about roundhead, but I think he was talking about Wilco ( and the 7 worlds project) and said that the Producer for Wilco would probably be producing Crowded Houses new album? Don't quote me on that, but that would be awesome!

Any thoughts?

It would not surprise me given his work with 7WCII and Wilco at Roundhead. Here is some background info on Jim Scott:

Enjoyed that read even for someone who knows little of making an album.

Sounds like a Crowded House kind of man, with his vintage equipment and one take philosophy.

Looking forward to itSmiler

I had that same thought, usaoz89. He would seem to be a perfect fit. Interesting article.

I can't say I'm "disappointed" - I'm sure Jim Scott will do a great job - but I was holding out hope for another boundary-stretcher like Youth or Flood.

But I suppose if nothing else it's incredibly convenient..Neil just got to work with Jim for 7WC2, and between that and the Wilco album he probably feels right at home in Roundhead Studios. And if Neil didn't enjoy working with him and get a great vibe I'm sure he wouldn't have hired him.

Mmm, but I would surely love a Jim Moginie-produced Crowded House album...

What are the albums to check out produced by Jim Scott?

I hear through the grapevine that the new CH sessions sound amazing - and this particular grape doesn't normally gush about other people's music unless she really means it.

Exciting, it is. Great to hear that the studio stuff is going down really well.

A little Jim Scott Google-ing led me to two interesting tidbits. Jim Scott is mixing Bic Runga's new album in August, according to her Twitter site. The Finn Bros' Suffer Never was remixed by Jim Scott as a US promo CD for Discovery Records.

Here are some more links on Jim Scott:

And now a moment of silence for Jay Bennett, the Mark Hart of Wilco.

Ah, Jaffaman -- this gushing grape promises delectable wine indeed. Can't wait to savour it.

I'm really enjoying the new Wilco album (hey, I made a donation!) so am very interested to hear what he does with CH. I would consider Bull Black Nova onthe new album boundry stretching (the word amazing also springs to mind).

If anyone has, like me, been wondering if Don McGlashan is involved in the recording of the new album, I found an interview with Don which contains some good news Smiler

"This year McGlashan has been camped out at Finn's Auckland studio, Roundhead, working on the new Crowded House album and on Finn's side project, Seven Worlds Collide. The former sounds fantastic, says McGlashan.

"I'm playing on a lot of it. A lot of the material is stuff we played on the tours. There's lots of euphonium and percussion on there, so I've been pretty busy with it." "

The whole interview is well worth a read:

From the article: "he'll be involved again with the Crowdies if they go out on the road to promote the new album."

I hate that moment when the guys take off their guitars and Matt throws the sticks into the crowd and there is no more...for tonight anyway.

Yeah - I saw the big IF. My guess is that Don was trying hard not to speak for the group. In other words, I have a hard time believing that the group would not tour to support an album with some songs that were road-tested

... unless they had a another batch of songs to record and wanted to capitalize on the great vibe in the studio.

pure speculation, but I'm confidently hopeful that they will tour.

Not being in on the whole 'live scene' - I just realised who Don McGlashan is. I own a Mutton Birds album and all - doh!!!

I'd hope it would mean a melding of two musical minds rather than Don becoming subordinate. Most of my favourite bands had at least two songwriters, I don't think that's a coincidence.

Dominion Road is a great track, for instance, but it isn't on the sole MB album I have.

he's a good guy - but i don't want him to JOIN crowded house.I would rather their new album AND tour was as much just neil, nick, mark and matt as possible.

the next thing we'll get is the 'don- mcglashan's-on-the-album-so-it's-not-a-crowded house-album' camp going crazy Big Grin

i could start again - you can depend on it
