You STILL have to be 18 years of age or older to access it I'm afraid.

Wow. It was great to see them up and running again, but that was rough--mighty tough crowd, but it was also a performance that took a while to ignite. It didn't really start to gel until they began playing the new stuff (none of which I'd heard before, all of which I was surprised to find I liked a lot, despite my impossibly high expectations).

That crowd sucked and the bottle bit was discraceful; likewise, going on before Rage is a blessing/curse--big crowd, but not the kind to lend itself to this kind of music. I saw RATM at Woodstock 99, and it was just shy of a Hitler Youth Rally--damn scary, to tell the truth. To watch 400,000 people scream in unison "I won't do what you tell me" and then destroy everything in arms' reach is something you don't forget.

At the same time though, CH didn't do themselves any favors with that setlist. That was a batch of songs you play on tour; for a Rock fest with a capital "R," you bring the @#$%in' Rock. That made it all the more frustrating, because WE know they can do it, and sometimes they did--'Universe' was stellar with some great ferocious stuff at the end--but they kept killing the momentum. Even they knew it, as they clearly skipped something to go to 'Locked Out.' Also, bragging that you're another bandmember's PARENT doesn't score you any coolness points either.

Ah well. It's a start, and I'm sure with time and a batch of shows under their belts, the new lineup will come together so that the songs aren't just good musicians playing their parts (The first few songs were real paint-by-numbers, I'm afraid) and the banter's not so strained.

I guess I sound like a drag, but I think this line up really will work--there's so much good stuff here; it just needs more time to click into place (which makes it a shame that their return show was sooooo high-profile, especially with that damn crowd). The new drummer was good--light on the delicacies that I didn't realize I was used to, but raw power where it counted and they needed that by the truckload tonight for the RATM crowd. Also, it was great that they had Liam along--they've always needed a fifth musician live (except when they had Eddie, who's 10 players in one). I hope he's along for the full tour, as he held his own and brought some sorely needed brazen comedy to such a difficult evening. He also helped offset Mark, who was the same as ever--incredible musician, zero stage presence. Once everyone finds their places in the performance--and it's gonna happen, you can see it's there--this is going to be a very worthy successor to the CH of memory. Can't wait til they hit New York

How disappointing for the guys, but nonetheless, a great set on their part!

They did a superlative job and should be congratulated for their courage and steadfastness. I think slowing things down was a good idea, whipping the crowd into a frenzy (NPI) might have escalated the behavior. Long-term heat does weird **** to your brain...that's why proper hydration is very important...and a banana or two wouldn't hurt, either. Just ask me, I live in the deserts of Arizona. I'm a poster-child and spokesmodel for proper hydration fer Gawd's sake!

They looked tired, as they should be, it's been a busy week for them. I can see the thin layer of rust they need to shake off. It will tighten up as shows go by.

Anybody who entertains the idea about the glory of being a rock star and touring just got a taste of the ugly side of life on the road. What am I talking about?!!! It is glorious!!! Especially when you get to meet and greet great fans like us, night after night!

It could have gotten much uglier. Thankfully it didn't. I think Neil and Nick handled the situation as well as expected, although clearly disappointed.

I'm glad I wasn't witness to that in-person. I could hear the chanting. CH expect a warm welcome (who wouldn't?) and Neil gets pelted with a water bottle to the kisser. That's rich! Glad I stayed home.

Neil is a big boy; he'll shake it off. He was clearly shaken & troubled by the senseless act, then, looked a bit pissed off by it and took it to heart and forged ahead. I'm sure they have seen worse behavior at large festivals in their collective years. He soldiered on like the gentleman/pro he is. He turned around during DDIO and signaled Matt to tone down the drums and encouRAGED the crowd to sing along to drown out the chanting. Took control of the situation...

I think Liam went crazy on stage to take the edge off the "bad vibe." I felt it all the way here in BadAss, Arizona. Crips, I thought it was another crazy fan at first; bet it scared Neil a bit, then I realized, "Oh, that's just Liam..."

I'm sure the Rage fan who tossed the bottle peaked on his Ecstasy and wanted pure rage...now he has to sit thru Damian and Amos, too. Ha! Really sucks to be you.

Now if Rage had any class they would hit the stage and call loser-boy out; or at the least apologize publicly for their fans crappy behavior. Serious lack of respect...I was hoping some of the Rage boys would come out and join Neil for a tune or two, but I guess I'm hoping for too much from them or their fans.

I'm wondering if the band will comment about it? We certainly have and will for the coming days.....

Let's hope for peace and respect...

Kimmer

Just got home, had a great time watching the webcast!!!

My feed kinda stalled a couple of times, so I missed the reason why he stopped singing DDIO and I just thought it was a technical issue or something... had no idea it was a water bottle chucked at the man! Now THAT ticks me off. I mean, I do like RATM and I can appreciate their music and whatnot, not a huge fan or anything but I don't mind them, but honestly show some class okay??? Good on the boys to just laugh it off (and poke some fun at the fans too!). Just goes to show how much talent and dignity Neil and the guys have.

And LIAM!!! What awesome spastic ninja-like dancing!!!! Took me back to the early SE clips with the "uncontrollable twitching and general dizrythmia"! That was AWESOMEBig Grin 5 points for Liam.

Loved the setlist, can understand why they chose most of the tunes, and was really happy to hear Locked OutBig Grin. Silent House gave me chills, as it always does, and I think Don't Stop Now is going to be a great first single, having heard it live.

I hope they are having a good rest of the night, not worrying about the stupid pri*** who threw the bottle... honestly I don't care if you HATE a band you don't do that. That person is an idiot. I agree with Shauna: I hope that person was surrounded by FrenzCool

Have a wonderful night everyone.

And may I quickly add, we truly are the luckiest fans in the world. Crowded House are the best, musically, and to their fans.Smiler

Sleep tight!-Ash

I'm glad I got to see the webcast, despite the fact that the bottle incident actually shook me up. I just couldn't imagine anyone wanting to do that to Neil of all people, CH of all bands.

It was a good set, I do admit I would've preferred more of their rockers but they were great nonetheless & especially despite the crowd. I was a little sad I wasn't there to toss them some sign that there are CH fans in the audience. (Earlier today I talked to a friend who said she'd be seeing their set, so hopefully she did represent--she likes Neil's music quite a bit and they even played her favorites FAYF and PU).

I almost regret not getting tickets from craigslist (they get less expensive the closer it gets to Coachella), but I feel the festival just wasn't worth it this year. Not enough bands I'm interested in, short sets for the ones I did really want to see, & I'm pissed they put CH, Rufus Wainwright, & The Decemberists on 3 separate days. It's like they were out to empty my bank account Frowner .

The bottle throw just seemed to make Neil more serious about carrying on. Let them pay their recent dues (not that I support throwing a bottle). They will get their touring legs on from all of this crapola....and then it's either great for them or it sucks. Guess that will indicate how many places away from the major metro areas will get to see them.

The AT&T Blueroom webcast was recorded highlights from various stages throughout the day, not LIVE or real time at all. CH followed Willie Nelson on the Main Coachella Stage from 745-835PM, followed by Manu Chao Radio Bemba Sound System from 915-1015PM, then RAGE was scheduled to go on at 1040PM, so those f'in RAGE fans STILL had a 2-hour wait after the CH set...ha, ha, ha!!!

Thanks, Carl Smiler. Have fun at the Seattle show! I have yet to see The Decemberists live, but I'm sure I will eventually. I really like their more recent stuff esp. Picaresque, and my husband is a fan. They're playing here in SoCal in July with the LA Symphony, but we can't afford the tickets. I've seen Rufus a couple of times and he is just amazing.

ok, do I understand this right? did some wanker hit Neil Finn in the face with a water bottle??? ugh, that breaks my heart. I did not see the webcast, as I was at the Ontario airport, raging against United Airlines (whose employees made their best efforts to prevent me from getting home tonight). I hope that Neil and the rest of the guys can get rid of the bad taste that must have left in their mouths and instead remember the love that the Glass House crowd showered on them on Friday night. we love you guys!

Ok, this really pisses me of, first of all I failed in waking up in time for CH,
then I wake up and read about some morron trowing a bottle to our Crowded House, are they insane or something over there??

and by the way, will there be a slight chance that the CH appears on the coachella site itself? cause there are more preformes on that site in some kind of archivement.

Will be happy with a youtube link too.Big Grin
