Anyone know if there are plans for a little get together before the Marlay Park concert on Friday?

There was one for Finn Bros a couple of years ago in the Long Hall and it was great craic...

Apologies if this topic has been broached in another thread...

I don't know the area around Marlay Park at all so I'm not sure what the story is with pubs out there. But there are loads in town (understatement of the year) and Dublin bus is running a service out to Marlay Park from Burgh Quay.

Hi folks, albeit my maiden post, I'd certainly be in favour of a pre-concert social. Can anyone suggest a suitable venue?

I don't know the area either... this is getting to be a bit last minute! On the other Marlay park board, Father Dougal Maguire said

Looks like I'll have to go to Taylor's Three Rock or Eden beforehand to don my beer coat and get my beer umbrella working.
- so at least those two are frenz-approved Smiler

OK - http://www.taylorsthreerock.com Taylor's Three Rock is on the 16C busroute and not far from where the "concert coach" will leave you - which I guess is the route most will be taking. According to that website, the Eden Pub is not far from them ("IF YOU GET TOTALLY LOST!!! Find the following pubs and get your bearings or ask for directions: Yellow House Pub, Blue Haven Pub, Lamb Doyles, or Eden Pub.")

It is also close to the park (5-10 mins walk). So will we do that? Taylor's Rock? The entertainment.ie website gives approximate starttimes for the concert "Starsailor (5.45pm), Crowded House (7.10pm), Peter Gabriel (8.50pm)." What time will we meet?

Taylor's sounds good. I finish work at 4 tomorrow, so I was thinking of heading out to Marlay Park straight from there. I'd be hoping to be there not long after 5 as I have to get into town from Ballsbridge first.

Those nasty PG'ers are nay-saying our boys. It can be like a GAA match. They can all go to the OAP's Eden and we'll go to trendy Taylor's.

Edit: Seeing as PG has just played the Eden project, they can all feck off there Big Grin

For the uninitiated (a.k.a those outside the Pale):

Thirdly, I couldn't find any info on the 16C magical mystery bus. So if you see some bloke in a white Ford Transit with 16C sprayed on the side, don't get it. I think it's one of those buses that runs on the first Friday after the summer solstice (hang on) when the modulo division of the year by 7 equals zero.

You might be better off availing of the Dublin Bus offering from Burgh Quay (south side of the Liffey beside O'Connell Bridge). Even if it is a bit of a rip off. Failing that it's the 75 or the 48A to Ballinteer and a bit of a walk. In saying that the 75 is only any good for city slickers travelling from Tallaght or Dun Laoghaire.

And just one more post to bring my post count up to a nice round 45. I have been registered since 2004 (and longer again on the old message board and I used to be on the Tongue in The Mail mailing list before this new-fangled forum lark - where are you JPH. Iarla will know).

I'll probably be wearing my black (not blue or green) Try Whistling This t-shirt (under a Disneyland Paris rain-cheater).

And a carnation.

But you'll have to ask everyone wearing a bright yellow Disneyland Paris windcheater if you can look at their undergarments. But they're usually a violently friendly bunch of chaps.

I think I am going to try the 48A. I think I'l take a half day from work as well and leave for Rathfarnham a bit earlier in case the traffic is heavy anywhere. But I think I will get the Luas to Dundrum and meet it there because the 48a has to all through the city centre which is not pleasant on any day, especially Fridays!

I'm also half thinking of investing in wellies, but I will decide that tomorrow when I see how crap the weather is!

Good luck to all of you going to the gig....gutted that I'm having to miss this one out especially as it's only a mile from where I was born and grew up in Churchtown. Hopefully they'll be paying a return visit and I'll catch them at the next Dublin gig.

I'd suggest anyone going gets the Luas to Dundrum and then walks it....forget about buses, they're bad enough at the best of times Roll Eyes

Really looking forward to reading those reviews!

The Luas from St Stephens Green is definitely the quickest way out of town, 12 minutes to Balally if you're feeling that way inclined. However the 48A bus from Parnell Square will virtually leave you to Marlay (unfortunately it takes about an hour to get there, no fun in rain and a Friday afternoon!)as will the 16 (which originates in Santry and goes through O'Connell St). Get off at Marlay Grange. Walk up the road and Bobs your Auntie!

The Ballinteer House is my local and is ten minutes walk from Marlay Park and the 48A will leave you outside it (ask for Superquinn). If you do go there I'll be in the Lounge in the wheelchair until 6.30, Starsailor can start without me Wink. Come up and say Hi, I won't bite Big Grin

Hi all... long time no post... I only seem to post around convert time... Smiler

I dunno what its like at the concert venue itself, but on the northside and the city centre, it has bucketed down for hours now... and with heavy showers predicted for this evening... I don't want to be a pessimist, but is there a chance the gig might not happen tonight??

I hate to say it, but there is a strong chance you are right. There is also bit of thunder as well. I am going to play the optimist and go out to Marlay Park unless I hear definite news in the next hour or so...

Dunnes Stores have those kangaroo rain jackets that package up into themselves. €10 each. Picked up a couple earlier. Looks like Mickey Mouse will be staying in the wardrobe this time round.

The 16c seemed to be doubling as an ATM machine last night. It's the first time I've ever withdrawn money from the side of a van!
