Here is a heads up for anyone interested who are in Brisbane.

I believe Paul (aka Neil in the show), Will be Co-Hosting the Monday Night Jam Night at the Paddo Tavern tonight Monday 14th July, Its on Given Terrace in Paddington Brisbane.

The demo's on the site were recorded after a long week of gigs and were just whacked down quickly to have something to show on the site.

If you really want a taste of what he will be doing you could head down to the Paddo tonight.

The show is a full tribute to Neil Finn and songs that he wrote and sang throughout his carreer in Split Enz, Crowded House, Solo and with his older brother Tim Finn.

Paul has been a massive fan of Neil since the beginning and has wanted to do a tribute concept for 15 years. At first he just wanted to do a Crowded House Show back before Neil embarked on his amazing and successful solo and duo (ie with Tim) carreers.

Within the show he will not just be performing Neils songs, he will also be getting across Neils personality and his hillariously dry sense of humor.

Also I just spoke to Paul and if you tune in to 1116 4BC AM radio tomorrow morning between 8 and 9 am Paul will be doing a live to air radio interview and performance to promote the show.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the show on the 28th and 29th of July.

Gbass, my beloved brought home a bit of scrawl on paper with the dates on, one of the blokes at work, saw it in the gig guide, I think.

If he's willing to drive, I'm willing to enjoy the music, just listened on the media player, and sounds bloody fine to me.

Good luck on the night.

Bart,

Thankyou for your comment.

Not quite sure by what you mean when you say "bit too much like Mr Blunt for my liking."

You have me curious to your meaning there.

If you are refering to the demos on the site, all I can say is they were recorded after a long week of gigs and a late night the night before recording them, and were simply recorded to have something for people to hear that Paul is not just a hack singer.

Once again thanks for taking the time to visit the site and hopefully after the first show we will have some video and audio from the show so people can grasp the full concept of what we are putting together here.

I can promise you people are going to be amazed by what they hear and see in this show.

I hope one day you will be able to have the opportunity to enjoy the show too.

Just looked on youtube at James Blunt doing Fall at your feet. I have no comment in regards to MR Blunts version of that song, I will bite my tongue.

In regards to your comment Bart if you were simply refering to the fact that the demos on the site are just acoustic and vocals (cause there is no way you can compare pauls singing to what Mr Blunt has done!) then as I said they are simply there to give an idea of Paul as a singer.

The show itself will be a full band tribute to the works of Neil Finn. Not an acoustic rendition tribute!

As I have mentioned in previous posts on this forum I am the Head of pre-production for the show and it is incredibly detailed in its arrangements.

We are all extremely excited about this project because we feel that there is no better person to pay tribute to then Neil Finn!

Greg, Paul and all involved in this project,

All I meant was

1/ I don't like James Blunt, and Paul's voice reminded me of him

2/ Aus/NZ dates by Crowded House are long overdue

I'm sure the show will be excellent; best of luck and well done for getting some Finn music to the people of Australia.

1. I hate to say this but please listen again to Mr Blunts version of fall at your feet which I too dislike and then listen to Pauls voice again and if you listen one after the other you will hear they are in no way similar at all.

In fact im sure Paul will feel quite insulted by you saying they are.

That being said you are entitled to an opinion and I will never say your not.

2. I agree with you on this indeed they are overdue. I personally would love to see Crowded House in concert once again and considering we are the closest coutries to the hearts of the band members I think they should be here as often as possible.

The show will be excellent and I can promise you that in no way shape or form will Paul sound at all like James Blunt when performing any of Neils songs hahahaha.

Greg,

OK, I was harsh. Initial thought was there was a Blunt-ish similarity.

Just listened to 20 seconds (all I could stomach)of Mr Blunt's FAYF via Youtube (does he inhale helium before singing?)which has proved I was somewhat off the mark.

Apologies - hope the shows go well and be good to see some video if you can upload to the site/Youtube

You actually got through 20 seconds of it!!!

Man you have got guts to listen to that much!

Did you check out my thread that I put in for the set list. I think you will find it quite impressive as a song list.

Videos and audio will most definately be posted after the show is completed.

Maybe one day we will come over to the uk and show some people how a real tribute show is put on Smiler .

Good on Paul Lines, good on James Blunt and good on anyone who can make money doing the music they love.

There are people who love all styles of music, and no reason to knock any musician who can give it to them. Giving music to the world is a courageous act, and a generous act. Being able to get paid for it is a rare and glorious circumstance - one which any musician ought to greet with deep humility and gratitude.

Thankyou heaps Mr Sadly for your pacifist & benevolent response in defending an artist I'm proud to admire/idolise (as much as Tim & Neil Finn) in James Blount!

YEAH!! YEAH!! YEAH!!!

"KILL EYE"!!!

Who's playing the keys? I only see three guys, and they've all got their hands full for sure.

It would be a good idea to leave off the authentic screeching squawking sound-effect at the end - it's very true to the album version of course! But it detracts from the verisimilitude of the live performance.

I like the version of "Don't Dream It's Over". To me he's not necessarily just doing Neil there - it sounds like he's bringing more of his own character to it in the verses, rather than merely aping Neil's exact tone and phrasing. Well-sung.

EDIT: say, is it me or are there two nigh-identical threads on this topic? Should one be folded into the other or what?
