Was sifting through my burgeoning cd collection trying to decide which of the many would be good to put on my iPod. Unearthed some instrumental Bill Nelson albums that were/are absolutely fantastic, & some David Sylvian albums that i hadn't played in donkey's years.

Does anyone know these albums?

The Summer Of God's Piano.
Chamber Of Dreams.
A Catalogue Of Obsessions.
Pavilions Of The Heart & Soul.

& Sylvian's
Brillian Trees.
Gone To Earth.

& is Bill Nelson still around? I saw a compilation of Bebop Delux stuff that was released.

I have almost all of David's Virgin output.

All of his albums are pretty distinctive.

Brilliant Trees is excellent, and is Gone To Earth.
Secrets Of The Beehive is a more acoustic setting than the previous two, but is as good as the previous.
Dead Bees On A Cake comes after a long hiatus (only broken by a brief reunion with his former band mates on a good album called Rain Tree Crow), as is 2 parts eastern, 1 part americana, 1 part uniquely Sylvian.

A wiser way to discover what you haven't already heard is the compilation 'Everything and Nothing' which samples the best of these four and adds many non-album tracks to the double disc set.

A great singer/songwriter.

Do have David's Brilliant Trees, but just on tape Seany. Have dug out my Japan cd's but only to be played when beloved is not about.
We have this TRUCE in the abode about music. I will never again put Patsy Cline on full bore while beloved is on the roof and take the ladder away. Big Grin
Still play Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence quite a bit, I love Forbidden Colours. Reminds me to dig out my vids of them.

Why on earth would you want to do that Kelly Timtam? Big Grin

Most of the Japan stuff has been remastered, although AUD$60 for the remastered Gone To Earth album seems a little steep.
Eeker
Ah, Brilliant Trees. An eighties classic.
The makeup was pretty out of controll on those early Japan albums, but i think Gentlemen Take Polariods, & Tin Drum still hold up pretty well by todays standards. I can't really comment on the work of Patsy Cline. Although i think her lippy was probably a bit more subtle than David's.

Did you know that David married Ingred Chavez, a former Prince protege (although not in the Wendy & Lisa mold). Apparently had a couple of kids, & was living somewhere in the Napa Valley at last report.

Um, Bill Nelson is still around as well, you'll all be glad to know (WHO?? they cry out?).

Well as I was fishing around for something else I came across this old thread. Just recently got a '94 concert of David doing a concert with Robert Fripp of all people. Hear that Joe?? The album is called Damage.
Bit heavey, as in guitars for some, a bit spacey & quiet in other parts.

Also came across my 'Oil On Canvas' tape, its a bit sad, so might have to do something about that.

What this old thread? Ah Damage, that was the live album with Frippy to support their album "The First Day". It was pretty heavy man. David Sylvian does Whitesnake. I never really got into that album as much as the others. It was a pretty intense kind of listening experience. Not sure what was happening in David's personal life, perhapse a bad hair day maybe.

Oil On Canvas on cassette! Wow. I had the vinyl somewhere. I always loved that Frank Aurbach painting on the cover, & did wonder if it was an original in the Sylvian collection.

Are cassette players still being manufactured? I guess cassettes are what Blueray will be one day.

Not sure what David Sylvian (nee Batt) has been up to of late. I know he had a band called Nine Horses that he & his brother were both in.

Hey Sean, I see he did a few albums with trippy Frippy. Big Grin Had a look at Mr Sylvian's site yesterday.
Have to keep an eye out for Secrets of the Beehive, seems to be the one most fans go for.

Yeah I knew of the Fripp - Sylvian connection. Fans went absolutely ape sh*t when Fripp toured with him, because Fripp performed off stage in the wings, you couldn't see him at all.

Fripp is a legend.

There is a good doulbe album best of out, called Everything and Nothing, not that i want to tell you what to buy or anything Kelly, but the dog on the cover looks like it could quite possibly be David's pet dingo "Mr Laurance". Anyway, as a best of, it's Fripping marvelous.

This is some of his more recent material, which, is not too discimilar from his earlier ouvre.
