Well, this was last night but I was going to give it a mention here anyways... I was watching the Andrew Denton talk show (Aussies? Help me out here, what's it called?) and they had the singer Kate Ceberano on. Apparently she's pregnant, and Andrew asked her to sing a song to her baby... and she launched into "Throw Your Arms Around Me". (Well, I thought it was good tv, anyway.)

That would be Enough Rope. I caught a little bit of the Chopper Reid interview. Scary bloke.

The Doug Anthony All Stars did TYAAM as well on the For Holly concert broadcast on Sun night. It's a nice song, but geez I wish Paul McDermott would learn another one. Roll Eyes

Because that word can also be used as a racist slur here in the US...that's the reason I'm assuming they changed the name....

Or maybe they thought that Americans would think the show has something to do with haunted houses or ghosts...

watching the sun bake all around.

watching all these people milling around my homeplace (a sleepy drinking village with a fishing problem). all out for the day, thinking about the fact that it's dead 10 months of the year, and the other two months, all my parking spaces are gone.

also thinking about whether this heat is actually good for us, glancing at the news, getting worried about global warming

yeah, and watching a little of radiohead's $2 bill show on MTV2 during my lunchbreak and thinking "**** - these guys are good"

I watch zero TV. Same with my kids. We're freaks. (OK, not really...more like, we need cable to even afford basic channels, and our local cable company is an evil, unaffordable monopoly.) We dispensed with TV in March of 2002 and haven't been watching any at all since. If I wish I could watch things, I wish I could watch Trading Spaces, Queer Eye and any tv series Rutger Hauer guest stars on (upcoming...Smallville).

How 'bout this...we are watching a rather severe thunder and lightening storm roll through Beaverton, smelling the wet ground and foliage during the first good downpour in oh, two months. (Ok, ok...Cartoon Network is on in the background) Wink

Has anybody watched the excellent 'Classic Albums' series on TV?

The idea is simple: each one-hour programme pays tribute to an album which is considered a classic in its field, and examines it with contributions and interviews by the original artists, producer, engineer, musicians etc.

The interviewees talk about what they remember about the making of the album, the thought processes etc. My favourite part is where the artists/engineers go into a recording studio and play back the album master tapes, to show how the tracks were recorded and built-up, often revealing things you hadn't heard or noticed in the final mix, like out-takes of vocals, or alternative versions.

They've done two series so far (and I haven't seen them all), but the best programmes so far have been:

Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder
Aja - Steely Dan
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Graceland - Paul Simon

Other artists who've been featured include U2, The Who, Elton John, Elvis, The Grateful Dead, Phil Collins and Jimi Hendrix.

Well worth watching if you've not seen it yet - plus I believe many of the programmes are out now on DVD, some with bonus footage Smiler

The one with Steely Dan has been on my Amazon.com wish list for ages(surprise, surprise) - I haven't seen it yet though. I've seen parts of the Stevie Wonder show.

I've been listening to Damien Rice's cd "O"

for about a month or more, but this is the first time I actually saw the video for the song 'Volcano' on VH-1 tonight. It made me smile so wide, let me tell you. Smiler

It was so pure and simple. 3 people in the studio making music, and so obviously in "the zone" and enjoying it.

You can look at the video on THIS PAGE.

:edit: If any of you know who the female singer is in this video, could you please let her know I want to marry her?

Now Geddy, you know it is an unwritten rule (unless you are a Finn) that those with an admiring fan club just HAVE to stay single.

Anyway get yourself back to the 'Pictures of you' thread and get those Tux pictures up. Your fans are waiting! Big Grin

I guess I'm the only one in America watching MI-5, it hasn't gotten very good ratings (but they have it on opposite Nip/Tuck and Queer Eye.) Personally I just record Nip/Tuck and watch it later that week - but now it looks like A & E is going to show MI-5 an hour earlier...Just reached the cliffhanger at the end of season one...yikes!!! Eeker Luckily, they are showing the next two shows right away so we don't have to wait for the next season like it was shown originally.

Also watching...Inspector Lynley mysteries on PBS, Faulty Towers and Mr. Bean.

p.s. Geddy in a tux would be avatar-worthy! Wink

(no worries geddy, I wouldn't actually do that!)

Hey Jenn -- my hubby and I are hooked on MI-5 too, although I've yet to see last night's ep (too busy on a conference call with the Philippines!). Am really glad to hear that we get the next two eps straight away... I was beginning to feel the Matthew withdrawal already!

I'm not much for wanting TV shows on DVD, but the few I have are primarily British (OK, so they're Blackadder and the Young Ones.. just a slightly different theme there!). I've already told Nick that MI-5 is a must-have if it ever appears on DVD here.

I'm with you Heidi, we hardly ever watch tv either. My hubby works too much, and I am home all day so we simply don't need cable. I would get nothing done all day if I had it!!! Esp if I had VH-1 Classics...

My 3-yr-old does watch some PBS, though, so generally if I see anything, it's that... usually while we're munching our lunch (Clifford is usually on about that time).

Sometimes if we're really bored at night my hubby might turn on one of the two PBS stations we get and see what's on... generally that's the only station with anything good on... well, some Friday nights I do make a slight effort to catch AFV... guilty pleasure! Big Grin
