one thing i don't know if anyone has mentioned yet (although they probibly have) is that our friends in america will miss out on the Climber>Rest of the day>Hole blending thing on One Nil which i think sets a tone for the rest of the album

I just got One All yesterday and I've only had a quick listen. The difference between the two Cds isn't as dramatic as I expected.

I really loved the "Climber - Rest of the day - Hole" blending thing!

I think my favorite song is "Hole in the Ice". It's so different sounding, and it gets to me. I was listening to it after work, and the tone really got to me. The whole album is really well done though.

Well, I live in Australia & it's not released here... Frowner & as for ordering it over the net, well I don't really have much money, no credit card, my parents don't have a credit card, so basically I'm screwed! Smiler If you can think of any other way I can get it, let me know Smiler .

I'm actully counting on winning that competition (the one where you think up names to replace super fan & fan), so please, Deb, let me win!

I listened to One Nil today (been awhile) and WOW! This cd is tremendous. My favorite Neil solo CD. It beats One All....I love the rawness of it, plus the better song selection. And Try Whistling This just does not have the lasting power as One Nil. I mean I love many moments in TWT but the experimental, quirkiness can only be listened to so much. I still like it, but One Nil is my favorite Neil solo....and today solidified it.

I often go back and forth on this point. I originally felt that One All was a great improvement over One Nil. the remixes of "The Climber", "Driving Me Mad", "Hole in the Ice", and the re-recording of "Turn & Run" are all superior to their One Nil counterparts. The additional vocals added to "Anytime" were also a good idea. However, I really missed "Elastic Heart" and "Don't Ask Why", they're two of my favorite songs! Ultimately, I don't feel like "Human Kindness" and "Lullaby Requiem" blend in enough, they sound like they belong on a different album. I like them both but on my iPod I have grouped them into their own EP:

Lullaby Requiem EP:
1. Lullaby Requiem
2. Human Kindness
3. Time on Earth
4. Sweet Secret Peace
5. Lament
6. Ray of Hope
7. Drive Home
8. Love is All that Remains

I feel like these songs all really tie in together and carry a similar theme. They were all recorded after One Nil as well (not sure about "Ray of Hope" actually).

In the end, my version of One Nil replaces the old mixes with the new ones and includes "Elastic Heart", "Don't Ask Why", and the b-sides "Now I Get it" and "Underestimated". I miss the fact that Climber - Rest of the Day - Hole don't flow into each other but with my iPod on shuffle it's often just annoying when songs try to flow into each other and get cut off.

I'm not entirely sure I've heard Ray of Hope or Lament, though it wouldn't be the first time I forgot I'd heard a song before. What are they from? A particular live performance?

**Hopes her own song "Last Lament" doesn't turn out to be a rip off of a Neil song she completely forgotten that she'd heard before...."

And I don't know "Lament". Where's it from? And how can I get my hands on a copy?

Edited to add: Half-Full, there's a link to a download of Ray of Hope on this thread: http://frenzforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7701061171/m/9...421002754#9421002754

I recorded my version of "Lament" from a live performance Neil did on NZ (maybe Australian?) television to promote the Parables, Lullabies, and Secrets show. It's very slow and moody and sung mostly in falsetto with a full orchestra backing. The quality of my recording is only so-so, though it does sound better than the only available version of "Ray of Hope".

Oh, then I have heard it. There was a clip on Youtube maybe, or The Panel's website a while ago. The name threw me off. Thanks for the reminder.

one little thing I wanted to say....I love the version of The CLimber on One Nil way better than One All. I love the fact that the melody actually clims and picks you up as apposed to how Neil changed it for One All....it goes down. Kinda feels a bit depressing instead of what I think it should feel like....a hopeful song.

I need to do a closer side-by-side listen...but it's kind of pointless, since every time I do I say "well, that version is definitely the better one!"

I definitely miss "Don't Ask Why" - great song, love the way he sings it - very Gallagheresque or something. Is he really singing "Error gorilla know what I mean"? I thought it was something like "'ello, gimme love, know what I mean..."

Which admittedly also makes no sense.
