From looking at other portraits by this artist, it appears he prefers to capture people's darker sides or something. Tim looks really ticked off in one of his protraits.

I thought the same thing - Tim looks menacing! Eeker The artist did get really good detail on Neil's hair, though; I think.

I was amazed at the picture, it was like he was in the room-will it be autioned off later or hung somewhere?

A very talented man drawn by a very talented man....

Tim had a harder face than Neil, but interesting all the same, but can look scary at times!!

I think the painting of Neil is amazing!

I remember listening to the artist talking on one of the aussie news shows saying that he asked Neil to sit for it, and he was obliging, and that the artist wanted to capture a darker, deeper side of Neil..

something like that.

I wonder if Nick Seymour could beat it! Razzer

The Archibald Exhibition closed in Bendigo today, my mum and I went down to see it yesterday. The painting of Neil is HUGE! I was looking at a painting on the opposite wall and hadn't seen it, then I turned around and there it was. It's incredibly arresting in real life. I was impressed with how finely it was detailed, and how Martin Ball (the painter) blended everything so well. There were some other excellent portraits, Simon Bryant and Maggie Beer, Sarah Blasko, Akira Isogawa and Red Symonds were my other favourites but being a loyal Finn fan I voted for the portrait of Neil in the People's Choice Award Smiler

I saw it in Bendigo too - great exhibition. I wasn't that impressed by the portrait of Neil, a reasonably good likeness but I didn't get any sense of the 'inner' Neil. Some of the other portraits were much more compelling I thought.

Do you know which portrait won the people's choice, melbournian?

I'm not sure who won the People's Choice in Bendigo as it voting was still happening when I was there. I know the one of Heath Ledger won the Sydney People's Choice award, and everyone was standing around going 'oh doesn't he look troubled etc.' and I piped up with 'No one would think twice about how troubled he looks if he wasn't dead.' It all went very quiet and I got a few dirty looks...oops...but it's true! It's a good painting but if he wasn't dead then no one would make such a huge fuss over it.
