Something So Strong |
Am I right that the only Neil solo song to get the full, rehearsed Crowded House treatment was SWHHW, which was played a couple of times in Europe last fall? Certainly Sinner (which I was lucky enough to see in Chicago last month) was impromptu, with just Neil and Mark on stage and Neil calling out chord changes to Mark early in the song.
I remember seeing a video of SWHHW (I think John Walsh posted one on his blog at one point) and feeling vaguely disappointed. We have two really terrific live versions of the song, from 7WC and Sessions on W54th, and the CH version just didn't seem to capture the vibe. Maybe it was just the low-quality video. -- And I wake up blind Like my dreams were too bright |

And maybe that's why Neil asked Mr Walsh to delete it.

A small aside: that made me snort, Paināporo! I agree with all above that recognize and admire Neil's fluidity. We also benefit from Neil's restlessness. He constantly challenges himself, and this seems to give birth to so many unique opportunities (7WC, Band of Strangers to name a couple). It would be strange if he stuck with CH exclusively from now on foreverandeveramen. |

I'd really love to see a Neil Finn rarities disc happen - I can see clearly now, can you hear us, tokyo, etc. All the stuff that isn't so readily available.
Also, I think CH should be the priority for the next couple of years. Neil only just turned 50! I think he's got enough years left in him to pursue many different aspects of his career. That said, and shoot me now, I love love love Neil's solo stuff and much prefer it to CH. It's a man not afraid to take challenges - another album that reminds me of this is Paul Kelly's words and music. |

Sorry Painaporo It kind of is the cat picture. I associate pics of cats with girls etc.
I reckon we can probably assume that that is what Neil will aim for. For myself, I would totally rather than Neil focus completely on Crowded House now, while it is directly in front of him, and give us more brilliant material, than for him to focus on half a dozen things, which might have the effect of diluting all of them them, to some degree. That also is only an opinion, and I often change my mind after I've thought about it deeply enough to put it into words. Texas Rose |

Hi all,
My first post! I certainly hope Mr Finn's solo career isn't over. It looks like CH is his main focus right now. I personally would like to hear a father and son collaboration in the future. A complete CD of "The Finns" - Neil and Liam! |

Welcome Azucar Now that would be a partnership that I'd love to hear but hadn't considered. Love the Finn Brothers collaboration, but Father and Son would be fantastic. Personally I think there will be another solo album (based on wishful thinking? Texas Rose |

I transcribed the section of the interview I did with Neil where he talks about the next Crowded House CD. He IS VERY focused on that, he is very into creating that record and making it the best it can be. So have no fear, Neil is really into the next CH CD, straight from the man himself. He is, however, working on several projects over the next 12 months and he's excited about all of it. The explanation of recording new material in the 7 Worlds Collide vein makes sense when you start talking about "new" material - but the word "re-recording" or I guess actually, making a "studio version" of something I thought of as a "live, one of a kind, once in a lifetime event" is different. New material with those folks (or a collection of new ones) makes sense. But I was not thinking very broadly, I was thinking it would be "studio" versions of what was cut before, which to me seemed silly. I know Cheap Trick did a re-recording of their second album, "In Color" (they had Steve Albini producing/engineering it) and it's been passed around as a bootleg. I've heard it may be finished one day and given away as a freebie with a purchase of some sort in the future (if at all). Initially, I saw re-recording that record as really silly and pointless, but once I knew it was somewhat done and people had booted copies of it, I wanted to hear it (I'm a big CT fan). So even if he did do a re-recording, I'd want to hear it. By the way, if I didn't ask here already (I probably did) where can I find copies of the Andrew Denton Musical Challenge CDs? I can't seem to find them anywhere and I'd very much like to get copies of Neil doing "Billie Jean" and "Sexual Healing." Any help? |

I can't help you with Billie Jean, but this myspace page has sexual healing on the player (top right hand corner).
